Awesome series but unfinished
This is the second time I have read the Troy Rising series - first bought it as paperback and now digital. Love it and it was just as good as the first time. Liked that it is based in realistic physics for the most part. Great character development. Good political interface and fantastic action. BUT it again left me with the "It's not finished" feeling of disappointment. Just like the We Few series. Come on - you owe your faithful fans better. I highly recommend this series. I'll read it again in a few years but would appreciate one more novel to wrap it all up.

A Good Read
This is the third book in a series. "Live Free or Die" is the first. "Citadel" is the second, which overlaps the first book and the third book a tiny bit. These books are good reads. Like many of the other reviewers have commented, "The Hot Gate" ends with the story at a convenient stopping point, but with lots of loose ends. If Ringo doesn't write another book in the series to provide a better conclusion, I say we get the pitchforks and rope and schedule a meeting with Mr. Ringo. "The Hot Gate" is a good read. I particularly like the battle story at the end where the momentum shifts back and forth as each side reveals more of its capabilities and plans in one of those battles that historians will study for ages because it marks a turning point for the future. That's why I and others are waiting for the sequel to this book, which ends with the battle. I would like to see where Ringo will take the story of what happens after this battle. The entire series is about how humanity deals with the problem of aliens showing up in our star system with more advanced technology than what humanity has. Earth has to pay tribute to aliens, but has nothing of interest to the aliens to make the payments with (a feudalist interstellar society). Earth has to somehow get control of its high orbitals back and maintain control, or it will never be free. The first three books cover how that might happen, with even a little humor thrown in now and then because life is like that. The series examines the impact of stellar economies competing with each other, the role of diplomacy in getting ethnic groups to cooperate with each other (human and alien), the efficiency of polical organizations, the impact of capitalism, etc. It also tries to convey just how big space is and how human thought processes have to adapt to the scale of operations in space. It isn't just a story about warriors oeverloaded on testosterone. Have fun.Live Free or Die (Troy Rising)Citadel

Needs continuation!
Action was only of a small portion of the book. Wanted more space fights or at least more discovery of new technology, keeps me just as fascinated as the characters for example: the implants, you could freaking become a super hero with those things. A major battle comes to an end "kind of" towards the end of this book, but there was no post anything after that therefore, If John Ringo you happen to somehow come across my comment and read it please, please, please be either writing another sequel for the Troy Rising series or plan on writing one soon. If anyone knows if another book is coming out for this series please let me know. Good book, good read, not as good as the first two because this one not as action packed, but dealt a lot with psychology, inter-human relations and inter-species relations. The book got into the really technical and political stuff, not that I mind those aspects that I mentioned, but I generally want more space action/ exploring, *spoiler alert* Terrans haven't even really gotten a hold of the Glakoid system yet!* spoiler end* There's still so much to freaking exploring and discovering to do along with inter-species interactions to cover. There's an infinite world to build and plus we started from the bottom and now we're here. I want to see where else the team can go.

excellent continuation in the series
Hot Gate: I always kind of resent the full blown review of plots and such. That is not a review. So I will give what I think a review is: The book is well written. If your a follower of Mr. Ringo writings then you know there is a balance betweew,"action and character," and it is in this book. The characters become more fleshed out as they mature in explanation from the author of background, movition, and plans of future developments., This is from all the character perspective, of course. As with any series, the characters and plot are evolving. There are some plot twists. As we come to expect from the author, there will be battles. They are balanced now between the various sides. As they should be. Everyone does learn from the past. There and interesting social/political aspect of the book I enjoyed. So I give the book a five star. Is a stand alone.. well, perhaps, but I do not think so to many. It is number 3 in a series. I love this guy and read it in a day. It is not quick read, it is just I had a ton of time.so, my advice, go back read the first two. perhaps they fall under by three and get forth one free offer, you have to check each book to see if it qualifies. if so, look into some of Mr. Ringo's books to complete the order. As always, donate used books to your local library. Share your gift of a book, so others may enjoy the fun of readingthanksChris

A Unique Alien Tale
Ringo is a joy to read. His fiction departs from conventional scifi in refreshing ways, including a focus on what the bad guys are thinking. Great stuff!!
