Enjoy Fran-chan and her Sword Dad! Not for everyone, but I'm addicted.
I am caught up on this series (book 12) so this is a review of the entire series to date. This is just another Isekai FRPG series with a twist, but a good one.The main character is resurrected as a sword, a support character. The heroine is Fran, a 12 year old cat girl. The story is about her, and how she grows up with a super powerful magical sword as her companion, teacher, and guardian. This means the author insert character (the sword) can be a typical person, with normal cares and worries, while Fran gets to do all the amazing heroic stuff. She is the stoic hero, vile to her enemies and protective of her friends. Perfect in almost every way--according to the sword. And unlike many such novels, we now have a solid reason for the heroine to be the way she is. She has a developed back story. Why is she so driven? Her parents were driven to be great heroes and "evolve"--something her race has not been able to do. Why is she so cold? After her parents died she was a slave for four years. Why is she so adorable? Well I am sure she is cute but remember that everything we hear is from her Sword Dad. He might be a bit biased. But at the same time she works at her skills (a little bit too fanatically to be clear) and often loses to more powerful opponents. This is not a Mary Sue, this is a fortunate young lady who has been given the chance of a lifetime--a powerful magic sword to help her become the hero of her race. The heroine her parents always wanted to be.A brilliant series, I have enjoyed every book but really feel like the series gets cooking from book 4 onward. Book 3 is probably my least favorite, but this is on... maybe the fifth read through? I loved it the first time through and am sure I will read it again. So the bad bits. First of all, their is a lot of FRPG gobbly gook, discussions about what skills to improve, etcetera. It gets a little wearing at times. Of course the author probably included it to make it clear how Fran becomes so powerful, but man.Their is a little too much of the "I would never think of Fran in a sexual way." If you are sensitive to that kind of stuff it will surely bother you. She is distinctly underage even for Japan but the number of times he is disgusted by someone calling her cute? Out of line.Overall their is a bit of sexism in the series. Not overt, and usually cast in a negative light, but its there. Women are often described as having a "masculine voice," of course this might be the fault of the translator. And the one transgender character is treated as a freakish aberration, not a normal person expressing who they are.So... if you are woke you will need to close your eyes at times, but it is a rollicking good read. I adore it.I adore watching this poor little cat girl grow and become more powerful. Working at it all the way, and man does it pay off. This is an awesome series, strongly recommended to those who like a good fun read... and maybe wish *they* were the sword Dad.

Sword + Catgirl + Adventure = Fun
Reincarnated as a Sword has a deceptively simple concept. A desk worker from earth is in another world, but as a magical sword. He can moved about with skills like telekenisis, he can steal skills from his prey, and he can level up. His past life makes him adept at gaming systems and combining skills. The first 25% of the book is him taking on tougher and tougher creatures while learning the world around him.Unexpected circumstances make the sword unable to use his magic skills, or indeed any skills at all, until a chance encounter with the young catgirl Fran. She is a slave in desperate need of a weapon to survive an encounter her owners have carelessly put them in.What follows is a fairly standard yet remarkably fun adventure as a fledgling spellsword learns the ropes with the help of an intelligent blade she names Teacher. The story is surprisingly meaty on rules, which many will like. Many of the fights are interesting in concept but quick in execution, which keeps to the fast pacing of the story but comes at the cost of real drama or sense of threat. The supporting cast is well thought out but never shines over the lead pair.It can not be overstated that this light novel is very much Japanese Young Adventure. It would not surprise me if there was a manga adaption in the future.Fun, cute, and really brought to life by the twist of skill utilization and combination.

Fun light read with good chemistry between the protagonists
A fun read that keeps it’s tone pretty light hearted. The characters are a little flat but they have really good and cute chemistry. I’m looking forward to the next volume

Entertaining read
It was a fun concept and was filled with humor. I enjoyed the character development and unique perspective. It caused me to start ordering the remaining in the series. The only problem is they make you want to read them so quickly and you are left waiting for the next one in the sequence to arrive so you can binge read that too.

Amazing book
At first was hesitant to buy this book, considering fact that title seemed so strange. I have never read any light novels, and I'm not really into anime.. so this whole thing was a new concept to me. Anyways, the was great, and the sword (he has a name, but will to read find that out) has a very interesting plot line. I really recommend buying this book!

Inspiring
I found the audio recording on YouTube, but it was made using the Google voice so I struggled so badly to stay only to fail and resort to waiting for it to change media in English. I'm so glad I remembered my interest after so long, because Fran is adorable and Teacher is such a fantastic idea for a protagonist. The weirdness of a sentient magic item is off putting, but because I play D&D sentient magic items are not unheard of and to make it independent is amazing. However, it must be said Fran, the GM and the Demon are super generic and Teacher constantly making the reader aware he dislikes the bad representations of humans is unnecessary. I would say show don't tell.

surprised me
When I saw this book I thought the premise of being reincarnated as a sword was dumb as all hell but I bought the 1st novel just to check it out and say I gave it a try and now I have ordered the rest in the series.I don’t like getting or giving spoilers so I’m going to be a vague as possibleI know a book is good by how fast I get through it, how much snacks are left after the reading session and how vivid my mental theatre was when reading.I basically blew through this one and was so into reading it that I barely touched any of my snacks and my mental theatre had me reminding myself that I didn’t watch an anime I read a bookIt was interesting, fun and a must for anyone that likes isekai and fantasy. I highly suggest you give it a try
