a helpful/healthy perch
This is a good perch to have in each cage to gently file a bird’s nails.. just be sure to get the right circumference for your bird so that the nails touch the sandy sides. ..(the top where the claw sits is smooth so as not to damage the underside of the claw..) Of course there should be a variety of types of perches to exercise the bird’s feet! Also, they last a long time.. gently clean w/a soft damp sponge & replace as necessary..

Heavy sturdy perch. Has a smooth part on top to protect birds' foot pads
These are great perches. They do help to sand down sharp claws when the perch is new. The grittiness wears down as they get older, so will need to be replaced in a few years.

A great perch
My Cockatiel Rocky loves it.Usually when something new goes in the cage he is timid for a day or so. That day he was setting on it within 10 minutes.

Wish there was more detailed information on materials used
My severe likes these perches. I usually get her the medium in purple which seems to be perfect for her size. She has the option to use these as a perch to hang out on if she wants but I try to place them as steps/ a shortcut to get to her toys on top of her cage and to get to her stand where she eats. This way she she’s using them daily and her nails stay trim. I’m a little concerned about her spending to much time on them just because although this is advertised as a “pumice perch” it’s actually just hollow plastic with some sand or pumice lightly coating sides. I’ve asked the seller twice what kind of plastic this is, where it’s made and if this is free of toxins and get no reply. I’m also an overly cautious parrot mama and question everything when it comes to my feather baby. The other down side is the attached plastic piece that connects this perch to a cage. You don’t have the option of removing it to customize or switching to smaller or larger washers to accommodate different sized bars on your cage. Example- I originally purchased this for her ladder but the spacing between the bars are too wide so it can’t be used for that. With that being said, I’m happy to find something in purple and suitable for a female parrot that actually works to file her nails. She walks around on these quite a bit and I started seeing a difference after buying the 3rd perch. I don’t have to take her to get her nails trimmed as often which is great for her and I both!

If you have vertical bars, get their other version!
Three stars, because this perch is high quality and well-made. However, the mount wouldn’t work with my flight cage, which has horizontal bars. The mount fit the bar spacing, but the perch could only be oriented with the coarse side up, which is the exact opposite of what this is designed to do. Fortunately, I was able to return it and get a different version by the same company that has the typical post, washers, and wing nut. That one is great and works with my cage (and my birds are good with it, too).

This is a lot better than others
I bought this for my macaw and I should have gotten the next size down because this one was a little bigger than I thought. He still loves it, but I will order him another one in the other size. I bought this because it has a better end that attaches to the cage. His cages has wider bars and others perches are not very sturdy or the ends slip through the bars in his cage. It going to take a while for him to wear this one down and I am very happy with it.

For Horizontal Cage Bars ONLY!!!
I bought this perch because it was one of the only “pumice perches” I could find. I searched high and low for a good, non-concrete perch. I found this one with pretty good reviews, smooth surface on top and rough surface on the sides, easy to grip hardware for attaching to the cage for my disabilities. When I received it, I was excited because it’s good quality but didn’t fit in my cage:( So I went back the the post and I had to dig in the “about item” on the original post for the item to find that it’s ONLY for HORIZONTAL bar cages! $20 perch completely useless:( It defeats the purpose of the perch. The smooth side is on the side where my birds nails sit and the rough side is where my birds soft feet are. So he’s sitting on the rough texture and not the smooth side. It doesn’t trim his nails at all. I am disabled and cannot return the item. Where I live, UPS has problems picking up the item. When I originally read the “about item” description, it first says that it fits on vertical bars. So, I stopped reading after that. My mistake. Please put in bold on the advertisement that it’s for HORIZONTAL cage bars! Overall, it’s great quality! I just wish they made this exact model for vertical bars as well!:) If you have horizontal bars in your cage, I highly recommend this perch!
