Use this with the Omix-Ada temp gauge
This temperature sensor 17218.02, is the exact one you need for the Omix-Ada temperature meter 17209.05. Only know for sure that it works with the open back style meter, with no can cover on back. Their pictures show as having cans, like original Jeep CJ5 used, but the ones I received had no cover. If you measure the resistance on just the sensor, your ohm meter will show as being very high, don’t worry about that. The 17209.05 meter will pull the value way down, due to it having resistance about 79 ohm to ground internal to it. It is the 3/8” thread that my original 1972 Jeep CJ5 used, and will go right in place to existing wire and connection on your Jeep. I had tried several different temp sensors, that nearly worked on my Jeep, but this one was exact fit, and reading was same as original.

so that's good.
It worked on my 1986 cj7. I over tightened it. All the threads don't go all the way in. I realized afterwards that the old one wasn't screwed all the way in either. Not leaking though, so that's good.

Doesn't fit my 78 CJ7 258
Bought it for a 78 CJ7 with a 258. Can't even press it in the hole far enough to engage the threads.

Works well. Good for what it is needed for.
Metal slightly softer as I turned in sending unit metal scratched by the wrench. Old unit seemed stronger. Unit works the same once installed.

Exact replacement
The first sending unit I received was defective, shorted to ground, but Amazon sent a new one posthaste. The replacement worked perfectly and as always, Amazon is tops to deal with.
