Spirit Bound: A Vampire Academy Novel

A Good Addiction Reviews
Beginning not long after Blood Promise closes, Spirit Bound follows suit with the other books and wastes little time catching the reader back up. The action begins immediately with only a line added here and there to trigger memories of what's happened before. With the big cliffhanger Blood Promise left readers on, Spirit Bound charges forward to face both those issues as well as a new array of events Mead has incorporated.Rose is still the same fierce, determined girl we've watched throughout the series although how she has matured across the books remains clear. Not a full personality change, but her overall way of thinking has shifted in accordance with the events she's faced and is very noticeable and well played out in Spirit Bound. This strengthens further throughout the book and with Mead's strong ability to write emotional scenes, the reader experiences everything Rose does. Her sarcasm and banter add relief and entertainment, even in painful or action packed scenes. Her interactions with Lissa return in this book, showing again how closely connected these two are- and not only for their bond.Lissa's character, I felt, grew tremendously during this installment. I found myself appreciation her far more than I had in the past and she now makes an even better counterpart to Rose. She develops her own intense determination and though she makes some shocking choices of her own, Lissa still remains a character most readers will relate to. Weak in many ways, it is understandable given her breeding and status and Mead continues to pull that through to the reader in a way that will negate most condescending feelings towards her.Adrian is still absolutely swoon-worthy, a sardonic playboy who holds the ability to love intensely. He holds his own spark and passion and his interactions with Rose are a shining portion of the book. We get to see some new sides of Adrian in this book, showing the full scope of his character, also adding new elements to the plot as a whole.Dimitri, of course, continues to play a role in this book, creating a large amount of friction throughout. His character is one of the best played out ones in the entire series. Mead does a wonderful job handling him in various situations, adding a few new layers and complications. This plot is as stunning as those before it and though a few parts were predictable, Mead laid the groundwork for them in previous books. The entire book, however, is far from predictable and Mead has once again thrown a major, shocking curveball at her readers to change the game yet again. The ease in which Mead weaves the entire story is astounding as she ties off some story lines, continues others and even reignites some. As with the other books, I find my mind blazing with theories and ideas of where things will go from here but the only thing I am sure of, based on the series as a whole, is whatever I come up with is not likely to be what Mead has in store. With a very enchantingly built world, established early in the series and expanded masterfully, a wide range of characters- many of whom the reader comes to know as personally and emotionally as Rose- and very fluent writing, Mead has another powerful installment to the Vampire Academy series. The overall thought put into things is becoming clearer, with each book showcasing Mead's talent more. A series fans of fantasy will enjoy- vampire obsessives or not- Spirit Bound is an engaging read to be quickly devoured, leaving the reader salivating for the next book.

The beginning of the end and you're heart will shatter!
Why I chose this book:This series is so addicting. Everything is culminating, and you can just feel the build up. Everything is going to hit the fan, and I want to be there when it does. *If you have not read the previous books, this will be slightly spoiler-ish.3 things you need to know about this book:1. Do the ends really justify the means? So close to the beginning of the book, Rose has another one of her crazy plans: she’s going to bust Victor Dashkov out of Tarasov, the Moroi prison. Victor has been painted in previous novels as a selfish, power-hungry Moroi if there ever was one. He was willing to kill —and did kill to a certain extent —in order to get what he wanted. However, Rose thinks that Victor has the key to turning Dimitri back into a Dhampir. Could it be true? Everyone replied with a resounding ‘no’, but obviously, it’s Rose and the impossible will somehow be possible when it comes to her. Yet, this begs the question if the ends justify the means. So many people get hurt, her friends are put in peril, and a known fugitive is freed from prison… but for what? For the sake of a single man (turned Strigoi)?Rose is run by her emotions, and sometimes it pays off … other times it doesn’t. But in reality, this question is asked frequently and makes you wonder what you would do for the person you loved.2. Dhampir vs. Moroi.Again, I find this culture completely fascinating with how the Dhampirs willingly protect the Moroi at the expense of their lives; whereas, most Moroi never lift a finger, even to protect themselves if it comes to that. I found that the Moroi wanting control over the Dhampirs and that movement similar to that of the feminist movement —or should I say the opposition to the feminist movement.Moroi have the desire to stay docile, and there are still many women who hold to that —and even more men. Yet, when a few Moroi stand up and really want to learn to fight, that creates absolute chaos. Moroi had once been fighters alongside Dhampir, just like women used to fight battles and rule nations, but fear has kept them scared and the disunity has created factions —something the Strigoi prey on.3. Dimitri as a broken character.*Slight Spoiler* Dimitri, after having been brought back, is quite the broken character, and I will say my heart broke for him as well. I loved that Mead showed his transformation in this fashion. He had killed so many people when he was a Strigoi, he lost part of himself. Just like killing people cause your humanity to chip away. I just really liked that she did that in this book, and I thought it was worth mentioning.Final Thoughts:This was a good book. I felt like it was a bridge between Blood Promise and Last Sacrifice, but everything mentioned was exciting and valid, so obviously nothing was boring, but it didn’t keep me from thinking that this book was a bridge. If I remember correctly, I finished this book in 24 hours. It was an easy and quick read.I gave this book 5 stars on my Goodreads.Check out my other book reviews at [...]

twisting!
SPIRIT BOUND (Vampire Academy #5)••• ⭐️:4,5/5••💬: The only reason this book didn’t get five stars is because there wasn’t enough Dimitri in it. I know that this was more about Rose and Lissa following some clues to find out how to turn strigoi back to normal, but urgh I missed Dimitri...specially because Rose keeps thinking about him and basically doing all these things only because of him…Overall the book was fastpaces and there were a lot of fighting scenes that loved, especially involving Rose! I also need to say that Adrian stole my heart a little bit on this one, because we were able to get an insight of Adrian’s true feelings and how much he cares for Rose, something I thought was only him being his usual self and charming her. Of course I felt bad for him but my heart still only sails for Dimitri.Lisa FINALLY showed how she can be a real good friend to Rose and how freaking powerful she is! (her bits with christian teaching her how to fight a strigoi even though he is an amateur were priceless).AND THE ENDING OMGThank God, I don’t have to wait for the next one to release, I would die if I had to do it. I’m so sad that there is only one book left for this series to end though...

The characters I love
I love the story of Rose and Dimitri and their passion. She is a strong female character and I love how the writer makes us fall in love with her spirit. Dimitri...now every woman would love a tall order of Dimitri. This is the type of man we woman would love to have. The writer created a dream man and I have to love her for it. He have great characteristics that i wish would exist in all men, in real life.

Brilliant stuff and what awesome ending.
Spirit bound is book number 5 in the vampire acamedy series and follows on from the events of the last book. After narrowly escaping from Dimitri rose returns to the acaemdy to finish her education and become a official guardian. However rose graduation isn't that simple and when Dimitri returns and is turned back from being a strigoi to his former self things gets complicated. After rose and lissa break Victor out of prison and they find out how to change Dimitri from strigoi back to dhampir the solution seems impossible and results in rose deciding on a heartbreaking decision to let Dimitri go. So when Dimitri does come back its a shock and more complicated due to the fact that she becomes involved with Adrian. There is a massive cliffhanger at the end that is a huge shocker and will most defiantly have you reaching for the last book in the vampire acamedy series. All in all spirit bound is a brilliant edition to the series and will have you well and truly hooked.
