Good tea not great
I personally love green tea. This tea is good it’s not great, but very good I suggested because it really is a cut above must

Good quality for the price; probably the best Gyokyro you'll find for the price without moving to top-shelf teas.
If you are a fan of Japanese green teas or Gyokyro's in general this is a great offering in terms of quality to price ratio. This is for certain not top-shelf tea but it is the best deal you are going to be able to find on Amazon (at least for now!) and is in no way something to gripe about at all. Make sure you brew the tea for the correct time at the right temperature or it will turn bitter quickly. Brew the tea kungfu/gongfu style for best results.

Very good premium green tea
First taste:It smells very nice and looks like it should (grass clippings), but at first taste I dissapointed as I was expecting slightly more from this green tea. It tasted weak and bitter. I have had better gyokuro before, but I should also keep in mind that had paid twice the price per gram when compared to this one.***Update: I got my thermometer out and made sure that my water never exceeded 167F, and the result was much better than my first taste. I used more leaves and steeped it for 90 seconds. I personally like to use more to get a stronger flavor and steep less in order to avoid the astringent bitter taste which results from steeping too long. Conclusion: at 25c a gram, this premium green tea is a steal.

Reconsidering my tea supplier
I typically order direct from Japan in bulk (shipping is free over $65). That way I get unique snacks and a variety. It was off-season for my green teas so I thought I'd wait to place a large order. This is some of the best Goyakura I've had in a long time (I'm decades into this habit). It isn't great for multiple infusions (I recall a day when the 3rd steep was terrific still), but the leaf is long, dark green, thin and shiny. The short steep gives a full fresh scent and deeply rich umami flavor. I love it.

Not Accurate Description of Tea
This Shizuoka variety of Gyokuro is dry (the leaves are crunchy with pointed tips), produces a pale yellow brewed color, and has a bland taste. I did not like it at all and I have been drinking Tealyra green tea for years. I am used to a more soft/moist tea leaf with a deep, rich green color and flavor. The thing that bothered me is that I did not receive any response when I e-mailed Tealyra and explained that the description of the Shizuoka tea was not accurate and should not be described as having a "deep green color." Due to a lack of customer service, I may switch to a Rishi green tea, which, by the way, has a super awesome Patagonia Super Berry blend. I drink it at night with a little stevia. It is not a spicy tea (with ginger or cinnamon) and so I sleep more relaxed and I think it has improved my health.

Intensity in 10 cities...
Whoa. This green tea is really something else. We've got the Cuisinart electric kettle that gets water to the 175 degree mark quickly and accurately, and you need only about a half to one teaspoon max of this stuff for about 1.5-2 minutes for the first steep and 2-3 minutes for the second steep to have a pretty intense cup of green tea. (Any hotter, any more tea leaves, or any longer of a steep and this stuff does get a little bitter).

Perfection has a cost.
This was the best green tea I had ever steeped myself. But, its rather expensive compared to the local tea sources I buy from. I wish they made this type of green tea too! Of course, green tea is all a matter of opinion, some like grassy, some like bitter... This one is very smooth and rich and almost sweet. Its considered one of the finest green teas of Japan and the price certainly reflects that.
