Death Wish 3 [Blu-ray]

A Movie From The 80s.
As entertainment goes it has it's good points and some points that don't make sense. But I'm just going to comment and correct some of the entries that were in the Trivia section of this movie.1. Kersey rented a private mail box in order to be able to receive the equipment he had someone ship to him. Which is why he made a phone call first. So the mail order purchase of firearms and reloading equipment is not correct.2. The "LAWS" rocket launcher is not a LAWS rocket launcher. It's basically configured as a very short Hollywood Bazooka so there would not have been a massive back blast that would have ignited the apartment and killed everyone.3. The kevlar vest Kersey is wearing is bullet resistant, not bullet proof. And it didn't have hard plates. In any case, you would know that you've been hit by a bullet because it would be like taking a baseball bat to your chest. And it would not have stopped the knife that was stuck into him. You need to add a stab resistant option to your vest.4. You could tell that this was the 80s because everybody, and I mean everybody was shooting like Sgt. Eugene Tackleberry with the chicken wing elbows. And nobody was using their front sights. Thank goodness they didn't turn their guns sideways.5. The guy that was shot in the right shoulder? That was not a nick. That entry wound was right were the the head of the humerus meets with the glenoid fossa. In other words, goodbye should joint.

Strayed from Template of 1 & 2, But Way More Outlandish
Death Wish 3 did not follow the template that both 1 and 2 did which I actually appreciated. I expected to watch essentially another version of the first two movies, but this one took a different path. Instead of seeking revenge against a few hoodlums in revenge for his family, Paul takes on an entire street filled with dozens of hoodlums. Unlike the first two where he worked alone and in secret, he also has the assistance of several individuals in the apartment building who are not at all turned off by violence. For those reasons I appreciated the first part of the movie, but it got a little crazy as it went along. It's pretty typical of an action franchise for each installment to push the boundaries a little more than the previous movies, and this is no different. The weapons were next level, the hoodlums were over the top insane, and the final "war" scene took Paul Kersey way beyond secret vigilante status into more of an immortal superhero. All that said, what action movie is realistic so why pick on Death Wish 3. It's still a fun watch and always satisfying to see the good guys take out the bad guys.

Bronson.... Winner ...
So it was a Friday night ..and I decided to watch the conclusion to this epic film. I had seen this some years and a decade ago. Death Wish-3 was always a huge pay out for Mr. Bronson apparently he was paid over 1.5 million for this one? Well that was a lot of money back then in the 1980's in 2020 dollars that could be close to 5-8 million dollars ? This movie had more of "Escape from New York" feel to it than any other picture at the time. The budget was 10 million dollars and the net from ticket sales was 16 million. Mr. Bronson at the time was 64 years old ..Holy cow..!! Not knowing that he started the first "Death Wish" around 50 years old in the 1970's. His love interest in the film was played by the late actress Deborah Raffin. She died in 2012 from "Leukemia".. The bad guy was played by actor Gavan O'Herlihy.. he was a sibling on the bief appearance of "Happy Days" in 1974. He is the son of actor Dan O'Herlihy 1940's-1998. Let's not forget actor Martin Balsam .. I fondly remember him from "Breakfast at Tiffanys".. he played the lawyer when Audrey Hepburn character get's into hot water. His second wife was actress Joyce Van Patten and one of his three children is actress Talia Balsam. The location was sketchy as hey... pardon the pun. There is no way in this world that I would live in horrific neighborhood such as that. There are many reviews about Mr.Bronson doing this movie. It was reported that they wanted actor Chuck Norris to take over the role..? A blonde vigilante ..nope ! This is Mr.Bronson's film..even Bruce Willis did a re-boot. I haven't seen him in it ..nor do I care. To be honest ..they should have stopped at this one...but there is "Death Wish 4" that I must see . I have seen D.W 5.... Sequel's should go to 3-4 and that's it...?? The public usually get turned off ..if the script, the location and the director are crap..

Death Wish 3
Hilarious B movie exploitation madness from seasoned hack Michael Winner. He said to Canon/GolanGlobus - I can do this within budget and edit it myself. And he did! The camerawork and cinematography is less artful and taught than the previous installments - its obvious that by now the 80's is well underway as Bronson, now about 100 years old, guns down dozens of streetpunks right left and centre. The villians have great chain accessories and writhe appropriately as Bronson uses an old WW2 machine gun to decimate their ranks. Of course there's the obligatory mysogyny, rape, gun worship and fascism, although it's strangely less thumping and offensive than many of today's mainstream action films. Death Wish III is possibly the best of the 80's low budget exploitation films and worth a watch even if just for a slice of history. Coincidentally, this film is vastly superior to everything Tarentino has done since Jackie Brown.

Death Wish 3 Blu ray
Let's review the blu ray this US disc is region free but please note their is a region A on the back of the box.The film is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio it has a bitrate of AVC @30MBPS.Sound wise the disc has DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0.Pq is very good with vibrant colours and a clear picture which looks like it has been re-mastered.Special features are very poor just the film's original theatrical trailer in sd.I find this film to be far-fetched but entertaining anyway this disc is worth importing for fans of the movie.

moderately watchable.
I get the impression that as time goes by, old stone face grows more violent, if the body count in this "death wish" film is anything to go by! there isn't a shred of originality or creativity to be found but it is marginally less sickening than the previous paul kersey outing. I didn't know until recently that "death wish 3" was filmed in London for the most part and that most of the extras that had any dialogue were dubbed by American actors. it helps to save on the budget if nothing else. at the age of about 63, Bronson was beginning to slow down but could still switch on the speed when called upon to do so.

They killed the Giggler, man!
The film:The story is nothing special but somehow manages to be one of the most entertaining films Charles Bronson ever made. The body count is through the roof in this one – if you’re a fan of 1980s action movies then Death Wish 3 is essential viewing. The blu-ray:It’s an improvement on my old full screen DVD, though some moments are very grainy indeed, I don’t think it will ever look better. The case states that the disc is coded Region A but it’s actually region free – it plays fine on my region B player.
