Great read love this BBC series
If you are interested in herbal remedies and love history, this book is for you. Well written and never dull. I have DVDs from the bbc series Victorian farm and this book is every bit as good as the DVDs. Lots of usable info.

Great buy!
This was a great buy for those of us who'd rather try something at home than run to the doctor.

Wish this series was on DVD 1 region or even PBS. Films are more info than books.

Good Victorian Chemist Information
Really good book with lots of facts about medicines and poisons used by our forebears. Amazing how arsenic found its way into many potions! Some brief recipes for hand creams etc., at side of some pages. Can honestly say couldn't get on with the BBC series when it was on but this book is a different thing altogether. Lovely colour photos from the TV series of chemists shops & old black & white drawings from the era. Thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic account of Victorian Practices of the Era
This book is fantastic, it combines the history of the Victorian Pharmacy practices with a practical amount of knowledge also emparted in the process, safe recipies for the reader are provided - though I am yet to try and test some. Specific parts that appealed to me are the proverbs, snippets of history about the Bronte family that is not widely known, Henry the VIII and his dalinces which were treated with similar methods to the period and especially the way in which the modern practices we use today are very similar if governed better and Health and Saftey applied much more widely. Stories of Humbug Billy and the 100's of thousands of people murdered through "accidental" mistakes is both facinating and blood curdling. Recommended for any teenager also studing the period as part of GCSE's or at A-level a real eye opener, well written and engaging to any reader.

Interesting and gruesome - Victorian Pharmacy Remedies and Recipes
Great book. Very interesting. How on earth the human race survived some of these remedies I don't know.If you are into history you will enjoy this book very much.

Enjoyable and entertaining. Useful for those studying this era.
My daughter is studying Medicine Through Time for GCSE for this era, so I thought this book would be an interesting starting point, even though we missed the series. We have been reading it together and have found it has held our interest well. Some of the recipes included are entertainingly dangerous (with obvious warnings not to try them, although obtaining the ingredients would be unlikely) and sit alongside some interesting (safer) recipes which could be used today. We have ordered the DVD. Despite getting it for study, it is a book I would have been glad to read anyway.

Excellent read...very informative...makes you glad your an Elizabethan...not a Victorian ...read it on holiday (book in cottage) but just had to get my own copy. Some of the *remedies* are unbeleivable
