bought knowing that most of the cost went into the blade
So coming from someone with experience of both Nihonto and High end Shinken , I had low expectations when buying this , but I wanted a blade to make my own Aikuchi mounts for . This blade is housed in Shirasaya , which is meant to do nothing but protect the blade , not meant to be a functional mount . Please , everyone , keep that in mind . As for the blade through hardened , so no Hada to speak of , definitely oil quenched . The kochoji hamon looks to be real with vibrant Ko-nie and a hint of utsuri , I didn't see evidence of any acid etching under a magnifying glass . It's a chu-kissaki and the Yokote looks to be geometric and not just polished in . So the criticism , there is zero Haniku , which makes for something very sharp and good for soft targets but will easily lose chunks of the edge , and the blade will tire from polish very quickly . Also , What is with the plastic sleeve on the blade for , at all ? Aside from preventing the saya from smelling of the cheap industrial oil used . Please just use choji made from tsubaki and drop the plastic sleeve . Choji oil not only smells good , but if allowed to stain the inside of the saya , it can help prevent rust whilst only using minimal oil later . The Mekugi peg is just a straight piece of bamboo , not smoked and not tapered , do not trust it . The hole for the Mekugi was drilled straight through the tsuka and nakago at the same time , which might be why some have difficulty removing it . I had to grab a file and scrape burs off of every edge of the nakago , I don't know why that couldn't have been done in production . Conclusions ... Do I think it's worth the 150$ ? Well , compared to what a 100$ would have gotten you 20 years ago , yes absolutely . There is absolutely room for improvement whilst still remaining at this price point . Also I think every seller of production blades needs to assume that the customer does not know what Shirasaya is meant to do and therefore explain that the fittings are not functional . Period .

Impressive Quality
Definitely not a toy. It is well-crafted and well-constructed from quality materials. Feels very solid and sturdy.

Nice blade plain scabbard and handle
Maybe they could use an exotic wood for the scabbard and handle which would make worth the price. Not recommend.

Beautiful Hamon Tanto
It took 6 weeks to get. all wood was wrap in plastic and plastic on the blade w ample oil but not dripping either. Solid plastic single mekugi- came out w the mekugi nuki(hammer) just fine. 3 taps on my wrist and blade came free of the tsuka. Only sword i’ve not had to use a tsuka removal tool on out of 10 so far. When I tapped out saya and tsuka- minimal dust in both. The hamon is the best of all my blades also. Extremely happy!!
