My favorite Author
Lisa Klepas is an excellent writer. Her characters have you going for the ride through the adventure with them. They are steamy and adventurous and will bring joy to your heart and sometimes tears to your eyes.

"Jack felt his heart contract with a feeling he had never known before…"
I first read this book over twenty years ago and still own the paperback copy. Jack is my second favorite of Lisa's heroes, with Derek Craven sneaking unto the first position. There is just something so amazing about Jack, how could I not adore him? I also love strong, intelligent, lonely Amanda. These two are absolutely made for each other. There is no underlying plot in this book. It is 100% a love story and its pretty fantastic!

and that's why Lisa Kleypas is the queen
This was everything and more I could hope for. I found myself trying to postpone reading further wanting to prolong the story.. So I finished it in 5 hours instead of 4.

Suddenly You review
This is the second of three of Ms. Kleypas' historical romances that I've read ... and re-read. I've enjoyed these three, have ordered four more of her novels, and will definitely read SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE when it's released in the fall (MINE 'TILL MIDNIGHT was the first of her books that I've read).I do have a problem with some inconsistences in the text that either Ms. Kleypas or her editor need to be mindful of in the future. Admittedly, I am anal-retentively (is that a word?) detail-oriented, and while I haven't had any problems with the historical accuracy regarding things, people or places in the books, I am bothered by a vehicle (the same vehicle) being described as a "brougham" on one page and twice more over the next few pages being called a "barouche." And while I have come to adore Cam Rohan (MINE 'TILL MIDNIGHT), I must admit I wonder at how Cam is so knowledgeable about the intimate words a Romany male says to a female when he left his tribe at age ten. When he told Merripen (when first meeting him and Amelia Hathaway) that he hadn't heard "the old language" in some time how much had he been taught by his grandparents or anyone else before he had to leave his tribe? He can't remember the taste of certain foods he'd eaten as a child, or songs he'd heard sung, but he (and Merripen) can recommend or create cures for "whatever ails ya!" I don't doubt that Cam could have educated himself once he'd come to live in London regarding some things, but had he been sexually active before he left his tribe? At least the reader is informed that Nick Gentry aka John, Lord Sydney (WORTH ANY PRICE) "couldn't read well" (while perusing Gemma Bradshaw's library the first time he visits her establishment) and it is explained that he is not knowledgeable about the subjects that he would have been taught had he not run away to London at age eight, but he's obviously earned a degree in "street-smarts" and that is totally plausible in my mind.I will continue to read other of Ms. Kleypas' novels, probably not all, because being a fan of soap operas I like the way she has some of her characters appear in her other works. This provides a continuation of sorts into the character's lives so that they don't completely disappear into the ether leaving the reader to wonder "whatever became of so-and-so?" And for someone who has begun to develop favorite characters among those who populate her books, in that regard ... I'm a happy camper!

One of my favorite Kleypas books
Although I enjoy almost of Kleypas' historicals, I have a soft corner for her characters that are professionals-- writers, publishers, detectives-- who are doing something useful and relevant in the world, have independence, a worldview and a a sense of humor to boot.In this book, writer Amanda Briars (spinster/virgin) decides to get herself a prostitute for her 30th birthday. She wants sex without the pesky marriage/husband part. When a man (Jack) lands on her doorstep at the appointed time, she chickens out. The man turns out not to be prostitute.. and the book goes from there. The dialogue throughout the book is sparkling-- I laughed out loud at least a dozen times. The plot gets a little light in the latter half, but is still engaging. One of my favorite parts of the book is the gifts that Jack gives Amanda. Most heroes in most books give heroines jewelry as gifts. But this man gives her a rare-edition book and a sterling silver pen stand. His respect for her mind, and her interests, is delightful. (He does give her jewelry toward the end, but it makes sense in the context of the plot).Of all of Kleypas' heroes, Jack Devlin has to be one of my favorites. He comes off as capable, cunning, funny and kind-- a sort of English George Clooney (with blue eyes) He's also proof of concept for the "good alpha" hero: someone who uses his strength and smarts to do productive and useful things in the world, rather than lording it over the heroine (or other women). This book left me with an abiding sense of how many good men there are in the world who support and respect women. And it did that while being funny, engaging and inspiring. Can't love this book enough.

Charming story
As usual Kleypas did it again. It was an original story, a flawless script with realistic characters and smart dialogues.

I'd give this a 4.5 if I could.
The .5 thing I did not like about this book is that it seems the hero is more in lust with than in love with the heroine. I've noticed this in a number of Lisa Kleypas's books. Sex seems to be about the only way the hero can show his feelings. We get a paragraph here or there about the the hero taking pride in showing his wife off, letting her do things normal husbands of the era wouldn't. That's all well and good but in the end it seems to boil down to sex. The reason I plopped this comment in this book is that the ending here seems to demonstrate this more than some of the other Kleypas books. After the event that leads to the climactic (no pun intended) ending one of Jack's first actions involves sex and raspberries. Now I'm not opposed to sex, raspberries, or even sex involving raspberries but the timing just seemed really off to me. Really, really off.On the positive side there were a number of things I really enjoyed about the book; enough to give it high marks. I really liked Jack and Amanda. Kleypas's hero almost always are perfection (but not perfect). Jack was comfortable being who he was and made no apologies. Amanda, too. Amanda who wasn't perfect; wasn't the diamond of the Season but she was human and real. And you enjoyed them.

Not the best Kleypas
⭐️⭐️⭐️,5/5This was on its way to become a 5 star read and then the lying by the fmc began..then she had the nerve to call the mmc out for lying to her about his age???Nope. It felt totally out of character for the fmc unfortunately and my rating dropped immediately to 3 for me. The ending thankfully saved it a bit.

A real page turner
Well, you can't really go wrong with a Kleypas. I bought it because I have read the Hataways books recently, and I loved them because of the witty dialogues, the well written prose, and the subject matter (of course!). Suddenly You does not really belong to a saga, this book exists by itself, but what a book! I read it in one day (night included), and it is a real page turner. You can't help but feel closely connected to Amanda, a successful 30-year-old novelist who writes unconventional books but who is still a spinster. On the night of her thirtieth birthday, she decides to lose her virginity and resorts to 'extreme' measures and buys the services of a male prostitute (how daring for the 1830s!). However, another man calls on her, a notorious editor, and this book is the story of their love story, very humane, exotic, erotic, and well-written. Of course you just have to look at the cover of the book to know that you are deep in historical romance, but Lisa Kleypas seems to bring something unforgettable and rather unique to the genre and it seems unlikely to be disappointed by her stories.
