I bought this with the  MSR 775ML AlpineTM Stowaway Pot  which I usually bring along with this when I go both backpacking and car camping. The pot nests neatly into the pan and the removable handle can be put inside the pot. Overall these products have served me well and I am very happy with them.

When i ordered this I was hoping it would fit my trangia 27. It does! the fit isn't perfect because the corners of this pan are rounded but it will work. I keep my trangia 27 nested in a Trangia Alum Cook Pot w/ Lid ( the smaller of the two sizes). Well to make the story short, the lid for the Trangia Alum Cook Pot w/ Lid fit this fry pan like it was made for it.

I have used other backpacking pans in the past and they were always made of thin Stainless Steel or such and they had hot spots. They worked okay but I always thought this was just something you had to put up with when heading outdoors. Well this frying pan proved that concept WRONG!The construction is similar to my gourmet pot & pan set that has a 1/4" copper plate on the bottom to spread the heat evenly. This pan has a plate of aluminum on the bottom and it works just like my professional set! No hot spots. Fries up a couple of eggs perfectly, just wipe with a bit of canola oil and you get no sticking.I am extremely pleased with this item!

I don't write reviews unless I think I have something of value to add, in that spirit, let me say this:Funny what passes for a frying pan in the outdoor industry; my Terra Solo Cookset  Optimus Crux Lite with Terra Solo Cook Set  has a frying pan lid, Yea Right!This frying pan, is "really" a frying pan. Also, the MSR Alpine Frying Pan can serve as your solo go to pan, if you are not of the minimalist crowd and/or do a lot of car camping, or are old school and don't complain about having to pack useful, well built, gear that works.If you plan on using this as your sole pot, what you need, as others have noted is a good lid; enter: The Orka Silicone Lid  Orka A94408 Silicone Lids, Set of 3, Green .The lid will let you boil up to four cups of water (with room left at the top of the pan). I boiled one cup of water in about 3.5/4 minutes. Yes, the aluminum heat element on the bottom of the pan does in fact work, and it works well.The Orka lid is not as heavy as metal one, and now you have a trivet and silicone pot holder. It is rated to 570 degrees and cleans up easy.I like to think that I am some sort of Camping Gourmet, and when I really want to impress, I use this pan with my Solhuma Vital Survival Stove  Solhuma Vital Survival Stove . I believe that the three (Orka Lid, Stove, MSR Pan) make a very versatile and economical setup, as the stove burns whatever happens to be lying around.Yes the Alpine Pan could be lighter but then it would not work as well as it does.

Have received 2 of these pans recently. On one, the crimp that makes the pouring part of the lip had actually been crimped such that it broke through the rolled lip of the pan making a sharp burr of metal (returned that one). MSR should have skipped that pouring lip. Also, both pans had a waviness to the cooking surface, which appears to have something to do with the (poor?) application of the aluminum disk on the bottom of the pan. At the very least, it appears unlikely that the stainless steel of the pan is uniformly in contact with the Aluminum disk. I was thinking the Primus gourmet fry pan would be better, but that had its own CQ issues.

MSR frying pan fits nicely underneath the Alpine Classic's 2 Liter pot, which takes up very little space for what it's worth.  MSR Alpine Classic Cookset  I often use it as a 2nd lid....when I need to cook & steam rice, and make hot tea, etc.The best thing is it's durable made of stainless steel with laminated aluminum bottom for better heat dispersion. Basically indestructible, good for forgetful people that burns the pan... like myself.
