Pitched to be interesting and not too simplified
Great book for curious kid. Balance of everyday and exotic. Youngster struggled with Ladybird larva....but we coped!

Fun filled and educational - classic National Geographic Kids
When I was a child, an American friend of my mother's gave me a wonderful gift which was the NatGeo kids edition for a year. Seeing this in the hands of my 10-yearold reminded me vividly of discovering the world through their impeccable lens and what fun I had sharing the facts and stunning images with my school friends.Every page is vibrant and fascinating. I'd say it would work for smaller children with a parent to read the details but really it's for children of 8+ who can digest the content at their own speed. The book's a reasonable price but if you have a child at the upper end of the age range (probably 11-ish) then I'd probably recommend Richard Jones' Extreme Insects over this one as it is even more impressive and utterly compelling if a little adult in some of its themes.Very good and anything that raises the profile of the mini-beasts is a good thing in my view.
