Enjoyable, Ambitious Film
This is an anthology of six love stories:Ashutosh (John Abraham) and Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan) are very much in love, living happily until an accident robs her of her memory and of any knowledge of him. Raju (Govinda), a taxi driver, falls in instant love with the non-Hindustani woman Stephanie (Shannon Esra) who has come to India to stop her boyfriend's wedding. Vinay (Anil Kapoor) has been married to Seema (Juhi Chawla) for fifteen years, but finds himself tempted to stray with the much younger Anjali (Anjana Sukhani).Shiven (Akshaye Khanna) is engaged to Gia (Ayesha Takia) in a love match, but suddenly finds that he cannot go through with the marriage.Conman Rahul (Salman Khan), pretends to be the invented boyfriend of Item Girl Kamini (Priyanka Chopra), in order to help improve her image in the press. Finally, for comic relief, Ramdayal (Sohail Khan) is newly wedded to Phoolwati (Isha Koppikar), but disaster after disaster prevents them from consummating their marriage. This is an ambitious film, but works surprisingly well. The music is excellent, and the choreography quite good. The variety of stories, and the way the weave in and out of each other, is nicely done and keeps the viewer's interest. All the cast gave good performances; there were no weak links. The critics generally disliked this movie, but I found it most enjoyable. I will point out, though, that at 224 minutes long, one will need to make a commitment to watching the movie or break it into several nights, as I did.

Really enjoyed this one
The photos on the cover of this DVD made me unclear whether this was to be a serious modern drama like "Life in a Metro". I found that it is modern but very much in keeping with light Bollywood offerings. It has a very strong cast who all do well. We have Priyanka Chopra as a rising movie star and Salman Khan planning a publicity stunt romance. They were doing some enjoyable light comedy with good timing and I would have liked even more of this section (I usually can take or leave Salman Khan but I thought he was really good in this); Anil Kapoor (as midlife husband flirting with an affair. He is always such a good actor) & Juhi Chawla (his wife), Akshaye Khanna (doing a convincing job as a commitmentphobe) & Ayesha Takia as his girlfriend; John Abraham (who started as nothing much early in the movie but got much stronger as it went) & Vidya Balan (as his wife) and Govinda & Shannon Esra (as his non-Indian love interest. It is six interweaving stories of romance that are varying in their degrees of 'reality' but all reveal different perspectives and truth about the romances involved. The music stands out for me with 2 big memorable songs (that I downloaded) and some good big dance sequences. It is well directed. It is a film with heart and great for lovers of romance and Bollywood. It is modern but doesn't lose the zest of what Bollywood adds in emotions, colour and ability to suck you in. I cared about the characters and shed a tear in the sad section.I really liked this one. However it can be slow in parts and some people find it far too slow. My co-watcher abandoned it first time round but watched it on my recommendation. She did end up enjoying it when she stayed the distance. She would have given it more a 3 1/2 though I think.

Great Music, Great Stories
As a big fan of Hindi cinema, this is one of my favorites. Six different couples' love stories are interwoven with plenty of music, color, and drama to go around. If the first half hour doesn't grab you, then persevere - it takes a bit of watching until the six love stories become clear. The movie is chock-full of famous Indian actors, though I think Govinda, as the lovesick taxi driver, really steals the show. If you're not familiar with him, you'll certainly love him by the end.The stories could be seen as each representing a different aspect or circumstance of romantic love: the routine life of a long-married couple, in which one partner is considering adultery; a very happily married couple who must deal with a life-changing accident; a couple on the verge of getting married until the man gets a bad case of cold feet; two people who are pretending to be in a relationship but unexpectedly fall in love; a taxi driver who (for reasons unknown) wants to fall in love with a foreign white woman and gets the opportunity to do just that; and a couple who, quite frankly, just want to get laid. The highlight of the movie is truly the music, particularly the dance sequence to the title track "Salaam-e-Ishq". This is a fantastic song danced by all six couples, but in different locations and settings. "Tenu Leke" includes breathtaking visuals, such as Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and a cast of extras dancing in various locations in London, including a wide shot of all of them dancing on the Millennium Bridge and the steps of the National Gallery.Watch it, sing along, dance along: Salaam-e-Ishq!

Salaam-e-ishq
This is almost like a Bollywood version of " Love Actually"- with 5 different couples and stories somehow meshed into one at the end. While the story lines are a little different from " Love Actually" they are still very much about relationships, love, joy, sadness etc. I very much enjoyed Salaam-e-ishq and my favourite stories/duos were Priyanka/Salman Khan's pretense of love for the sake of fame and John Abraham's dedication and love for his wife suffering from amnesia after a train accident. There's some comic relief thrown in by a newly married couple(totally unrelated to the other stories) who seemed to have rotten luck in consumating their marriage for one reason or another! A very good & watchable movie for a boring Saturday night and while my DVD arrived in good time, the quality and sound was rather poor with picture frames freezing on me halfway through the movie! I'm not sure whether you can get some other versions or make of this DVD but nevertheless, Salaam-e-ishq is highly recommended.

Engaging
This was a lovely movie following the story of few coupes at the same time by switching from one story to the next. I found it engaging in the sense that it kept my interest because there were occasioanl twists and turns of all stories. It was a little long though - around 3 hours, so set yourself aside some time to watch it. All actors did a great job, especially Vidya. I liked the story of involving Juhi Chawla and Anil Kapoor .

Love the film
Love the film, but as is becoming standard lately, the DVD is extremely poor quality. It sais 16:9 ratio, but in fact is more like 4:3 with both sides missing. And the quality of video is nothing special either. With such a popular film I'd expect someone up there really gives a ... to make it right for the viewers.

Excellent Film ; Rubbish Print
This is an excellent film, but do not buy this particular DVD as the "print" is extremely poor.I cannot believe that the studio would release a DVD which was encoded so poorly. It is likely this is not the original studio release (if you know what I mean).Specifically there is an unacceptable level of artifacting, probably due to having a very low bit rate at time of authoring the DVD. Streaming video from the internet offers better resolution. The film itself is lovely. A lot of mickey taking out of the film industry which is nice as the film doesn't take itself too seriously. However there are some tender moments coupled with a good soundtrack make for an entertaining few hours.

Bollywood's Love Actually

A most romantic feel-good film
A romantic feel-good film of five intertwining stories of love. Govinda is particularly endearing as the taxi-driver in love with his white memsahib passenger. Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla live literally in the grey world of Anil's depression and midlife crisis. Priyanka and Salman share fantastic chemistry as the ambitious starlet and her fake lover. A dimpled Akshaye Khanna manages to make you sympathise his commitment-phobe attempts to escape his engagement to the girl you know he really loves And John Abraham demonstrates he is is more than just a beautiful body, as the desperate man whose beloved wife is caught in a train accident. And just when any of the stories gets a little too sad, we get to laugh at the sixth couple, surely the most accident-prone couple ever, making yet another disastrous attempt to celebrate their wedding night.Being Bollywood, all the stories come together at a climatic (and hilarious) wedding scene. This film will leave you with your head full of colour and music, and a smile on your face.
