This is an awesome little beginner flyer for kids and adults alike!
This is a nice little flyer that is easy enough for kids and beginners to fly. It has altitude hold and is a really docile flyer. Propellers are completely covered so no losing props or getting hit by them, but they do include an extra set. My 5 year old son loves it! And he actually flies it well! This is an indoor drone but definitely can be flown outside. Check out my outdoor Flight Demo..

A small package, easy to learn and lots of fun
My 5 year-old great-grandson was fascinated by my Syma drone but it was just too much for him to enjoy (and we almost lost it into some trees).I didn't want to give him a nano-drone that would be frustrating for him to play with, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money for an electronic toy for a 5 year-old.I know enough about drones to know that a great learning drone should have:- One-button take off/landing- Headless mode- Auto-hoverI was dubious when I read the features and reviews for the SNAPTAIN H823H Mini Drone but Amazon had a reconditioned unit for less than $20, so I placed my order. When the drone arrived, I was impressed by the permanently attached circular safety prop guards that fully encase the props. I was very surprised to find 3 (yes 3) batteries in my package. With 3 fully charged batteries, I could spend time enjoying flying this responsive drone. The auto-take-off brings the drone up to 4 or 5 feet automatically and then it hovers with no need to touch a joystick. Auto-landing works perfectly. I tested using auto-take-off to take off from the floor and then flew the drone to my workdesk and hit the auto-landing. The drone slowly dropped to my desk surface and shut down perfectly. The headless mode works well. The drone emits a tone every few seconds when in headless mode. This will be great for beginners to enjoy flying without worrying about which end is forward. The drone has a bright LEd on it's front nose so it's easy to see which way is forward.I gave the drone to my great-grandson today. He was so excited and his father appreciated the 'auto' features that removes the frustration most beginners have with their first drone.I hated to give this drone up. I may order a second unit for myself.

Hearty drone, easy to use and great fun!
I bought this drone for my son (11 years old) after the first one we bought was a little too complicated and had some issues. I liked the look of this one and the encased blades because I figured it'd be a little more crash proof and durable. When we received the drone I was a little skeptical because it was smaller than I expected, but the controls were easy enough to learn and it flies really well. We really loved that you can toss it into the air and it stabilizes and goes. The controls are very similar to other drones on the market but the plastic guards make it much more durable as we were hoping. It's not great for outside (partly because of the size and power of it - the drone can fit in the palm of my hand) but for inside it's so much fun! After a couple weeks of use it did get stuck in someone's hair, with the hair wrapped around the propellors. But some scizzors, a tiny screwdriver kit, and a couple of propellor switch-outs (a replacement set is included) it was back up and running within an hour. To be fair it didn't last all that much longer than that, the next incident burnt out one of the motors, so it couldn't fly any more. But lesson learned for the future! And not the fault of the drone that kids will be kids. The fact that it lasted a month in our household may be a record set for mechanical/remote toys. I would definitely highly recommend, I would also recommend keeping it away from hair and yarn. The plastic guards will protect from most objects, but they are little fans and will pull things into them if they get too close.Pros:Easy to learn, easy to control, works well indoors, well stabilized, batteries last a while (~10 min of constant use), great fun for the kids, very durable for smashing into things, headless mode makes things a LOT easier (orients to the remote), 3-speeds means it can do a lot of neat tricks and makes maneuvering more challenging for different skill level users.Cons:No camera, batteries are a bit awkward to plug in (there is a cable that you have to connect/disconnect just under the battery - plugging in and pulling out isn't the easiest thing in the world to do and it's kind of awkward, the plastic guard can be crushed (or can break with too much pressure) propellers can easily bend and the motors are almost impossible to replace.Overall though for a first drone this is a great choice and will probably outlast the novelty of it. With enough care it could probably last a lot longer.

Great beginner's flying RC toy
So when I first opened this, I was a little underwhelmed by what I saw...a really small (even having done research and seen photos, I was still stunned by the size) drone made up of a few small components that can't have been very expensive to throw together, a couple of kinda-cheap-looking spare batteries and parts tossed in, and a fairly simple but solid remote. Once I got this flying though? It's great. It is SO easy to take off and control (especially at the low speed setting), and very stable. The auto return feature is wonderful. That and the auto-altitude hold add a ton of value to what initially looked like a cheap toy, and it seems quite durable given its weight and the well-protected blades.I enjoyed this enough testing it out pre-Christmas that my kid is going to face constant requests from me to share it.If your young kid asks for an RC helicopter, try to sell them on a drone instead, at least to start out. It's just so much easier to control.Only a couple of small cons, really:- I wish there was a way to lock out the higher speed settings on the drone itself, because it seems like it will be easy for a user...especially a kid...to accidentally enable them, as it is done simply by pressing down on the control stick.- I wish pairing was a bit simpler...maybe a push button. The process isn't hard at all, but a small kid may have a hard time remembering it.
