Warning !!!
I just purchased this mapsend (topo) software. The maps are very good so far. When you open the box DO NOT follow their directions if you have a Meridian unit !!! Do NOT load the base map as it will turn your unit into a Map 330 unit and it will crash and need to be replaced per Magellan. While looking at the maps on my computer I found the detail quite satisfactory. They show all the info I was looking for and then some. If you know how to read a topo map you should find these to your liking. One other drawback that they are working on is the file size that can be downloaded to the unit. It is only 32MB. They are working on a patch for this problem though. For ease of use you may want to get an SD card reader to speed up the download process. You don't need to connect your gps unit to the computer this way.

Awesome mapping software
Having used my Map 330 in Kalalau Valley this past summer, I had some waypoints and a whole bunch of tracks that I was able to download to the Mapsend Streets program, not very usefull for off road use, however, I recently purchased the Topo version and was pleasently surprised that the saved waypoints and tracks transferred to the Topo version as well. What was impressive was the cross section feature of the software that actually retraces the track steps on your PC. It uses a white circle icon that follows the tracks that I took going to various features of the valley. There was an impressive amount of information in the data box that accompanies the cross section feature. One important difference with this program and the Mapsend Streets is that there is a print function to this program with preview. It's nice to have a hard copy of the maps downloaded, in case your gps fails for some reason, like low batteries for instance. While the accuracy of the image track was not dead on, I don't expect any GPS to be 100% accurate as the satellites are for military use and not intended for the general public. After all, we wouldn't want our enemies to use this resources on us, would we?This is one impressive software and if you have a Magellan GPS, you really need this software.

It's accurate in Colorado
For the most part Mapsend Topo is quite accurate and useful in Colorado. At first I didn't think it even had Snowmass Village on it, but if you keep zooming in on the general area, it finally shows up and the data is fairly recent. I uploaded the topo maps to my Meridian and drove around. For the most part it placed me in the middle of the right road. On curves it had me in the neighbors house, but that's not bad considering the technology involved. The reason I only gave it three stars is that Magellan indicates it has the same information as Streets and destinations plus topo data as well. Not the case. The former has places of interest for travelers, like hotels, gas stations etc. Topo only has topo type POIs like mines and tunnels and gulches. I'm planning a road trip, so i wanted the gas station info. But overall it's a good value if you buy it from Amazon.

Map info is off! Magellan says "sorry about that!!!!"
I bought the MapSend Topo software, along with a 32MB memory card, to use with my new Meridian Marine GPS. What I've found so far is that the map locations shown in detail on the GPS screen are consistently off from the actual location. In the Pacific NW the error is moderate--when I drive down a street it shows me off to one side--consistently. In California it showed me off consistently by 1/2 block. In Hawaii it was consistently off by 1/4 mile!!!! Not very good when using the map data for hiking.I talked to Thales Navigation's customer support and they are aware of this problem. There is nothing you can do to correct the map's offset from reality. This seems to be related to the low quality of map that the support person stated they get for free from someone. The CD lists Woodalls (as in RV and campground guides) as a co-conspiritor, so I suspect the map data is from them....

Doesn't Work on Windows XP (updated)
[Previously I had reported the error message "cannot open search tools, program will exit"]I have it running on XP now. The problem appears to be relatedto some anti-virus software that is on all of the XP machines I tried. This is the first program I've ever used that has required me to disable anti-virus software in order to get it to run.

Outdated, Inaccurate, Expensive
-Outdated:Street data is at least 3 years old, based on known construction dates for roads in my area (N. Dallas, TX). Both major roads and secondary roads are missing.-Inaccurate:Streets, trails, intersections, and points of interest are usually off by 100 yards or more. This makes the software essentially useless for navigation.Search by address feature generally places bullseye 10-15 addresses away from correct spot.On the positive side: Elevation data is very accurate.

Out-of-date product
This topo software is approximately 4 years out of date. I emailed Thane Navigation asking for an update or an explanation why they didn't state a disclaimer for the out-of-date condition. NO RESPONSE!! I should have heeded the warnings in other reviews that the MAPSEND software was out of date and you could not get help from Thane's customer service. VERY POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS!! I will not purchase their products in the future.
