After reviewing various canister filters, I decided on the Hydor. I love the flow rate and quiet operation, as well as the easy of maintaining the filter.

If you don't let them run for too long (6+months), they're actually quite easy to clean and reuse. If you do spread out your filter change though, these can take quite a beating without breaking down or completely clogging up. Definitely me go-to filters, even if they're pricier than diy.
