Solid Board For The Price of Upgradability Path
I was torn between the X11 or X12 version. But for the sake of having 7003 upgrade path. I chose this board. The price is not bad considering how much threadripper boards cost. Or even pro consumer boards. This board blows them all out of the water for price/features.No issues with boot up. Installed 4x 32GB Samsung 2666 dims and a EPYC 7302P. Running in a supermicro CSE-826 chassis. Both M.2 slots populated. No hiccups with IPMI/BMC.Provided unique password was working for IPMI access as well.I did not have any issues with the fans connected to this board. As long as the RPM threshold does not dip below 400rpm. They will spin fine. I was using the provide fans with the CSE-826 chassis. Cooling with an active cooler and the 3 fans set at 2600rpm. Very quiet setup.

Wonderful seller, overall good product, with a significant draw back
I hesitated a while before giving this grading to the product. The seller is really nice and responsive, I think highly of this transaction overall.Supermicro is good at making high quality server components. H12SSL-I is a wonderful product with a rich feature set, thick PCB board and high capacity to extend for future. However, I really want to comment about the fan control issue for low speed fans. I know that servers may expect high RPM limit fans as their cooling components but apparently there is a need of low speed fan support. For example, Noctua claims that their NHU14S series should work fine with SP3 socket (they even listed H12SSL explicitly as a board that has good compatibility). What’s more, there are plenty ATX chassis providing fans ranged between 1200RPM to 1500RPM.This board, however, makes it really hard to have a good experience with these low-speed fans. Once the board generates low duty PWM signals to tune the fans to a lower speed, the fan speed will actually drop below the lower limit and results in false-positive detection of fan failures, which in turn force the BMC to boost all fans to maximum. So you will hear the fans ramping up and down, again and again. There are ways to workaround the issues: using 3PIN header to avoid reporting RPM; set IPMI to expect a lower limit; plugging some lower speed fans to FANA/B headers and then setting the power plan the heavy io so that BMC will keep them at a higher duty. But none of the ways work perfectly. The instructions do not contain detailed explanation of the fan header’s differences. You will have to try again and again to figure out a solution. Sometimes when you plug-in the fans with an unexpected combination, the system just boots without an error and results in an empty sensor list after the boot. The POST procedure of the server board is just slow… So you know it is extremely painful to set it up again and again.Anyway, it is a good product but it deserves a better fan control system.
