Some blood but its not a gore movie, plenty of cool demonic black magic, this is great fun and well worth picking up if you like these cheesy old horrors, especially now as 101 Films has released such an amazing five star Blu-ray version.Blu-ray picture looks great in HDFeatures are amazing value for money, a commentary, trailer, gallery, featurettes, the making of Spookies which runs at 1hr 40mins, and you get the Feature length documentary VIPCO the untold story which runs at 2hrs 19mins. Billy's celebrating his 13th Birthday in the woods. He comes across a man who warns him to go home. Billy carries on going, and the man is killed by a cat creature straight out of Michael Jackson's Thriller video. The birthday boy then finds a spooky old house in the middle of nowhere and walks in as you do. He finds a Birthday cake, baloons and a present. He opens the present which contains a severed head that wishes him a happy birthday. Billy runs out of the house only to be caught by the cat creature that buries Billy alive. Oh I forgot to mention that the house is surrounded by a graveyard.Meanwhile a group of young people and an old fart who is constantly moaning, are looking for a party. They come across the same house, enter and after getting drunk they discover a Ouija board which promptly turns one of them into a pasty faced witch. The remaining people are forced to play a deadly game of cat and mouse, with every room they enter containing a new horror, and every step might be their last. Its all an evil plan by the sorcerer Kreon, who surrounds the house with rotting zombies so nobody can escape. And thats only the first few minutes of the film!Okay so theres not much plot and what little there is doesnt make much sense, but that really doesnt matter when theres a new monster lurking round every corner. And what an impressive bunch they are- a trio of farting mummies, a couple of carnivorous gremlins, a plant monster with deadly tendrils, the statue of the Grim Reaper that comes to life, a giant spider woman and the aforementioned cat creature and zombie hordes. I bet that everybody associated with this film had a whale of a time making it. The special effects are really good in a pre-CGI way, and the cast of unknowns all do a good job.It's a typical 80's horror film, great fun and unpretentious, and above all not to be taken too seriously. I enjoyed it immensly, and hopefully you will too. The Vipco release is a nice clean print. 4 out of 5

Bought this bluray after watching the monsters den .im a huge horror fan but didn't think much of this movie bad acting not much of a story and special affects are pretty bad . Probably never watch it again so a bit of a waste of money.

The film itself isn't great not watched since many years ago but its a nice boxset which will stand in my collection

If you love horror films from the 80s, Spookies will satisfy your tastes!I wrote the wikipedia entry for this film (thanks for all the contributors!) so head there and read about it..In a nutshell, its a weird blend of Ghoulies, Evil Dead, House, maybe Night of the Demons and Return of the Living Dead. Monster effect after effect create a whirlwind of weird scenarios, set-pieces, and death scenes that are memorable.My favorite kill is the Spider Queen...hehe.The best DVD you'll find available as of this date is the ole' VIPCO dvd of Spookies....still worth the 10 bucks to import it from the UK.C'mon Arrow. Blue Underground!!! Code Red??? pick this film up from obscurity and give us a sexy release with extras!!!

Looked scary until I watched it. My advice is don’t bother.

Product arrived fast and according to description. One of the best horror movies that brought back my childhood memories since I saw it moons ago. Picture quality and extras are excellent!
