Great plot with interesting, flawed, "real" characters. Salvatore's writing skills are considerable, and his sword-play fight scenes are possibly the best ever penned. His plots are excellently designed and depicted. Salvatore is a master storyteller and is outstanding in setting his readers deep within the fantasy "Realms of the Forbidden" world. His best-selling "Drizzt series" is unforgettable, to be sure! It helps to start at the beginning, with "Homeland" and working your way through the many additions ... you will not ever grow bored, or weary of the characters. "The Servant Of The Shard" is a bit of a diversion from the main Drizzt books, but it is in no way "diminished" at all. If you enjoy a great fantasy book, with fast-paced battle scenes, and with believable and engaging characters, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

It was difficult to stay engaged with no hero to cheer along. The hero(es) finally arrived to save the book.

In great condition for the cost

This is really a great series to buy and well worth the money to get the entire series. I never liked reading in the past but this series really captured my attention and held it fast. I am a Robert A. Salvatore fan when it comes to this series. I haven't read any of his other works yet but I really love his creativity, writing style, and definitely the character development coupled with the internal monologue given by Drizzt as he reflects on his life that gives incredible insight to life as a whole.

Book 1 of the Legend of Drizzt series, Homeland, was a hard read at first with the long complicate names but once I got past that I really liked it and decided to keep reading. I've now read 25+ books from RA Salvatore and would recommend all Legend of Drizzt, Hunters Blade, Transitions, and Neverwinter books as great fantasy reads. Salvatore has such great character development and interesting new adventures that make you want to keep reading. There is a fair amount of fighting, if you're not into that I'd still recommend these books, just read through those parts fast.

After being sorely dissapointed with "The Spine of the World" book I was egar to read this book.I was far from dissapointed with this book.There are no good guys, no heros. Its a battle of evil vs. evil. And that is what makes this book one of Salvatore's best.We learn alot about Artemis, but more importantly we learn alot about the drow: Jarlaxle. The drow with an ace up every sleave, and more ways to kill a person than you can count.This story is about the drow band: Bregan D'aerthe, and their attempt at breaking into the surface world. Not to conquer, but for more profitable ventures.When you mix in the Crenshinibon (the crystal shard), everything goes wrong.I highly suggest reading this book. We learn alot about Artemis (not really his origin, but more along the lines of his persona), Jarlaxle, and even Morik the Rogue makes an appearance or two!

A delightful adventure starring some of Salvatore's most interesting characters!

Unglaublich spannend! Jarlaxle und Entreri gehörten schon immer zu meinen Lieblings Charakteren. Dieses Buch gibt beiden Charakteren endlich etwas Aufmerksamkeit und Tiefe. Wahnsinnig spannend, vor allem der letzte Satz Satz im Buch hat mich kalt erwischt!

Originally in the Paths of Darkness series and later bashed into the Sellswords Trilogy, Servant of the Shard is one of my favourite Salvatore books. Enjoy this book and hide far far away from its sequel which is a huge piece of garbage and rumors of ghost writers prevail! agh! Oh, and its no item for children. Haha------...
