Malabar Rebellion : A Gandhian Oversight in Retrospect

A must read book!
I believe it is very important to pen down history in its true perspective for the future generation, so that they can read and analyze the evolution of Bharat. It has been observed that there are various incidents in history, which does not have equal written representation from all sides and somewhere they are leaning towards a false narrative. In this situation, it becomes very imperative, that one should as an author break such myths through facts. In this book as well, the true perspective of Malabar Rebellion has been highlighted. The reasons and mistakes that eventually lead to the Moplah riots are highlighted and the book also recognizes and answers certain uncomfortable questions on the conduct of Gandhiji. This book has heavily relied upon work of Sir C Sanakaran Nair, a very eminent Jurist-Statesman and more importantly, this book has provided judgements that were reported back then do make establish the point that Malabar Rebellion was a religiously motivated rebellion and not a mere economic rebellion by peasants. In addition to this, the book could also have connected to the broader perspective of Partition of India in 1947, and how Khilfat was the incepetion where it all began. Maybe, a second book on this aspect might interest a lot of readers if it is conflated with the Partition of the country in 1947.

Biju Brings out a Whole New Perspective to this Historical Event
An important contribution to the historical event of the Malabar Rebellion. What exactly was the nature of the rebellion, what role did the Khilafat movement play in it, what were the acts or omissions of Gandhi, are all superbly explained. This work also helps in understanding the rise of the Khilafat movement itself from the events in Tukey and Armenia.Biju Achuthan, through incisive analysis, foundationed on in depth research brings forth a whole new perspective. The court case records the author relies on lends credence to his views.A timely contribution in the 100th year of the rebellion.

A good read of history
The book deals with lesser known history of Kerala which generally does not find a part in school curriculum. This book also shows the oversight of Gandhi in retrospect and is a very good read for avid historians. Enjoyed reading the book.
