The hobbit comes in two sizes: large and small. The large hobbit has two caves, 2.15 inches and 1.2 inches. The small hobbit had three caves, one 1.2inch and two 0.75inch.

Q: How big are the opening holes in the castle?

my larger fish (black skirts) don't tend to go in although they fit. The smaller fish and algae eater normally frequent the castle. Not a huge opening but ok for smaller species.

I bought this for my Betta fish. And he never had any problems. He actually really liked swimming through all the holes. The only problem I did have was it liked to float. I had to get weights to hold it down.
