Very Best of John Rutter

Ritter’s works, combined with the Cambridge Singers and excellent musicians are soothing, uplifting and good for the soul in these disturbing times even if a listener is not just interested in religious music which is true of me. Great to relax and meditate peacefully.

I'm a newcomer to John Rutter's music. So far I love everything I've heard that he's written. I love the "Pie Jesu" from his Requiem, and I'm taken with the beautiful simplicity of his Christmas carols, especially "The Angels' Carol" and "Mary's Lullaby." As a Christmas carol writer myself, I know how deceptively difficult it is to write simple lyrics that mean anything. (Try writing an additional verse to "Silent Night" and you'll see what I mean.) Rutter fuses words and melody to make a perfect whole. And the man writes gorgeous, memorable melodies; I can't listen to "The Angels' Carol" or "What Sweeter Music" and NOT be humming them to myself all day.If you're wondering whether you ought to buy this CD, please don't hesitate. John Ritter is a gifted composer of choral music, particularly sacred coral music.This album gathers many of his best compositions.Great to calm the mind and the soul!
