A real piano
A real piano. Not digital. My child gets to experience playing a real piano, and that means the world to me. And the price is unbeatable for what it is. It's durable enough to have been flipped a hundred times without breaking.

Terrific For Baby's First Instrument
I purchased this a couple weeks ago at bargain price, $35, for my 10 month old grandson. I am a piano teacher, so I am apt to be more critical than the average purchaser. Upon reading reviews of complaints about a bad paint smell, I just decided that I'd better remove the plastic from piano to allow it to air out before Christmas. Removed plastic ; no bad smell at all. Smells fine, like new toy. The keys produce a xylophone type sound, not representative of a real piano, but having proper pitches so a young child can learn interval relationships. Charming, and ideal as a first instrument. The only thing I spotted is a ding on the left front wooden piece just left side of keys ; perhaps 1/2 price due to being factory second ? However, I will put some non-toxic wood glue in the spot to protect it from breaking, and dab on a tiny bit of dark blue non toxic paint, and voila ! Not a problem. Worth $50, maybe not $70 full price. I would say it is too small for a toddler, but my baby grandson will be tickled.

After revision, totally worth the money
I had reviewed this toy initially as not being worth the money, but let me tell you, Melissa and Doug delivered! I called them to tell them about the sound that the keys were making and the shaky top, and they were so awesome about it, that they replaced the piano! Their customer service blew me away! I cannot say enough about how friendly and helpful they were. To top it off, the piano came in no time at all, and sounds FANTASTIC! True notes and very sturdy, so much so that baby tries to climb on it now! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Melissa and Doug! Please see below for my initial review. In reading the reviews I thought this would be a good buy, but when I received it and opened it up on Xmas morning, I noticed that the top of the piano is a little shaky and loose. Not only that, but the sounds the piano makes are totally dissonant. This is disappointing because this was his "music Christmas"; I had also gotten him various other musical instruments. This was supposed to be the really special present, but he likes the cheap generic bongos better even than this. I am enormously disappointed by this piano.

Excellent toy for fun and playing recognizable songs. Not a precise instrument.
This piano looks nice and is very sturdy. I like the feel of pressing the keys. They have a nice spring to them. This is great as a gift for a children's first exposure to musical composition of any sort, as long as you're not too concerned with them learning how to read actual music. There is a music book with only little letters within circles placed on the bars, not actual whole, half, quarter, etc. notes to indicate how long to hold each note for. They are all familiar nursery rhymes, though, so that my children ages 4-8 have all figured out how to play it varying degrees of success. It is not well tuned, though, and the sound is quite "plinky" more like a children's toy than a musical instrument. The notes definitely move from lower to higher, so you can recognizes any songs you try to play. If you're not too picky on sound, I would recommend this. If a tunable or well-tuned machine is a priority to you, you should not buy this.

Not good quality at all.
I've just recently started purchasing Melissa and Doug products. (My son tends to be a bit rough on his toys so I mostly opt for the cheaper, less costly to replace options). Some of their products, like their puzzles and the kids table, are sturdy and well made so I was expecting this piano to be of the same quality, boy was I wrong. This things is, I'm sorry to say, junk. It sounds horrible, nothing like a real piano. Pretty much exactly like a xylophone. Most of the keys stay depressed unless you pull them back up with a finger. The keys also wobble quite a bit. After my kids played with it for less than 5 minutes I decided this wasn't at all what I wanted for them so I picked it up to put away until I could return it. As I set it down, I noticed the upper left screw in the back was about 3/4 of the way out already. I pushed it back in with very little forced which isn't really a good thing. All in all, I would have given it two stars if the age recommendation would have been for 6+ months since all this thing is good for is a baby to bang on but since it says it's for 3+ ( which was another factor when I bought it since my son will be 3 in two months) I cannot justify giving this product anything higher than one star.I hate writing bad reviews however I feel the consumer should be aware of what they are getting. With that being said, if you are looking for a little piano that sounds slightly better than the musical plastic ones, and something to teach your child how to position their hands to play a real piano and nothing more than this might work for you. On the other hand, if you are looking fora study product and something that will actually teach your child the sound of notes this is absolutely not it.
