A sturdy and versatile backpack
I purchased this backpack October 2010, about 5 years ago. Since then, it has traveled around the world with me, been used as my luggage during quick trips around the country, and supported daily use during undergrad and one year of grad school. I'm happy to report it is still in great shape and is one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a male of average height and build, this backpack is the perfect size. It is not bulky, but has enough space that it can easily serve as your single source of luggage for weekend (or longer) trips. It is also very sturdy, and I have never had a problem packing it to the brim with heavy items when the occasion calls for it. It does not come with a waist strap, but the lumbar support is a phenomenal way to ensure it sits securely and ergonomically on your back. One final thing is that the backpack looks very sleek. I use it in school, for travel and even to go to work sometimes. It looks professional and is adaptable enough that it looks appropriate for all of these different occasions.

Wicked Good Back Pack
A sore back and a sore shoulder forced me to search for a better means to carry my laptop. I took a month to research laptop backpacks and finally settled on the Kensington Contour. I didn't want to buy a Kensington. I wanted a backpack making company with a name I knew, like Jansport,or Kelty. I've been a backpacker and was familiar with their products. I settled on the Kensington because it had the qualities I was seeking: comfort, quality materials and design, water proofing, laptop padding, urban black, rugged exterior, sophisticated appearance, lots of pockets, adjustable lumbar support with back padding and a water bottle pocket. I write and work in media for a living. Mostly I work at home, but once a week I travel to cities. This pack does exactly what I want it to do - have places for everything I need, protect my precious laptop, and look hip.So now it is a few months later. I still like my pack, but twice now the hardware has broken. The first time it was just the zipper-handle on the little outside pocket. It fell off. Kennisington immediately replaced the pack for free. Last week at the airport the tab that holds and adjusts the left shoulder strap-- broke when slung the pack across my back. I haven't contacted them yet.

Amazon picture is of the old version, current version is horrible!
The redesign of this bag is a huge step back and I can not recommend this bag for purchase:I purchased this backpack several years ago and it held up pretty well. The mixture of ballistic nylon, custom zipper pulls, and other high quality materials made this bag really stand out.Over the years the zipper pulls started to shear off so I took Kensington up on their lifetime replacement guarantee this year. Their replacement process was painless, they shipped me out a new bag and told me to keep the old one.The replacement bag I received looks nothing like the old bag (the image Amazon displays on this product page is the old bag.) The zipper pulls are cheap stamped metal, the ballistic nylon and leather-like material is the considerably cheaper looking now, the waist-strap has been removed, and overall the bag is much smaller. The bag is very uncomfortable to wear as it sits higher on the back, the straps are too thin, and the width of the bag has been shrunk.Very disappointing to see the direction this bag took with the redesign.

Excellent quality, a worthwhile investment
I bought this backpack to lug my Dell E1705 17" behemoth laptop around campus. Since I commute, I carry everything I may possibly need along with me. I've read the other reviews and thought that they seem to make one think that it may be too small. So I thought it might be useful to someone out there for me to list what I carry around with me 5 days a week, for several "on back" hours each day:Left side pocket: my charger (size of a brick), a Belkin 2-Outlet Travel Surge Protector and a little room to spareRight side pocket: a Belkin 4-Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Pocket Hub, Kensington cable lock, a GPS locator and room enough for more componentsFront compartment: pens, pencils, highlighters, Swiss Army knife, other such stuff with room for at least 3 decks of playing cards if I so desiredMiddle compartment: three of the elastic toped pockets holding 10 CD-ROMs, a Creative Labs Live Cam Notebook Pro, and a Tarsus wireless mouse with the fourth pocket empty atm. Compartment also holds my CD case, schedule book and pocket guide to Linux. I could still fit a 2" thick textbook in here if I needed toBack compartment: my E1705 (barely), a 5-subject notebook, and 3 non-hefty textbooks. I will not say 3 hefty accounting textbooks would fit, but 2 would with ample breathing room, if textbooks ever needed to ;P. (You'll want to keep this compartment pretty full so that the laptop suspension pouch is pressed against the back of the pack. If it comes down and the pack sags, your laptop may still hit the ground hard!)I won't say my backpack doesn't weigh a ton (35-45lbs?) but it holds it well. I have never had aching shoulders from uncomfortable shoulderstraps or lower back pain from having the weight hanging from my upper back. I'd have to say that the contoured back support is the reason for this. I only feel the weight when I'm picking it up or setting it down.Lastly, let me tell you a little rumor. Two days after I received my pack I went to a student computer conference at U of Ill @ Urbana-Champagn. When exiting one of the lectures someone asked me if I was also from Google. He said that Google had bought every employee one of these backpacks. Cool!

Amazing quality and value
A fantastic capacity laptop bag for my 15.6, there's even room for my smaller netbook too and the extra accessories plus more. Very useful for travel and feels very sturdy and well made. We've always used Kensington as the quality is consistent and the protection is amazing, everything fits snuggly and I feel confident that everything is well protected.Highly recommended, especially at this amazing price for £35, they're usually around the £70 mark so it's a no brainer!

Love this backpack
Love this backpack, I had one earlier which lasted me for almost 9 years. I have a back problem but the way this bag is designed, the weight was distributed so well that I could carry my 17” laptop withought any problems.

Amazing!!!!!!
This is a excellent quality backpack to carry your laptop . It is designed so that even if you drop your backpack your laptop will be fine. This is because of the padding and the pouch that your laptop sits in is suspended and does not touch the bottom of the backpack. The adjustable straps and lumbar area allow you to fit the backpack so that it feels like it was custom made just for you. The quality of the material is outstanding and they last a long time. This is the second one I have purchased and the first one lasted 3 years of daily use. Well worth the money. You will be very happy with this purchase.
