This WILL NOT work with Windows 10
Giving 5 stars because product operated like the seller states. We ordered this to upgrade an old computer to enable Miracast to a Screenbeam Mini 2, but the computer has already been upgraded to Windows 10. After receiving and following the setup instructions we could not install the software on the computer because it recognized we were running Windows 10 and not 7 or 8. Windows 10 is not supported currently. The success stories we were reading about they believe are those that installed the software when they were using Windows 7 or 8 and later updated to Windows 10. The software was still there on their computer and found a work around to using it still after upgrading to Windows 10. If you are already rocking Windows 10 like us then this will not work for you. Hope this helps answer a question for others like we were wondering

Great Adapter
If you are running on Windows 10, will not work, but If you go back and install Windows 7 ultimate, the system will allow you to install actiontec software and work perfectly fine not only as a mirror but also as an extender. Then you can go ahead and install Windows 10 again and will get a perfect secondary monitor with no lagging at all

It's a pity the manufacturer doesn't support Windows 10.
For reasons I don't understand, It's a pity the manufacturer can only supports Windows 8 and doesn't provide driver support Windows 10. There are 100s of 1,000s, perhaps millions of laptop and desktop computers, including my quite expensive and nice HP-DV8T that have been upgraded from Windows 7 and 8 to Windows 10. 10 is a FAR better operating system than 8. I'm not buying a new computer, nor am I going back to Win 8 (ugh!!).My research reveals that this device could be supported with the Win 10 specific device drivers so that desk/laptops that don't make the Miracast Licensing cut off date can't be allowed to run Miracast.Back in the days of tail finned automobiles there was much adieu about "planned obsolescence". Apparently the tail fin marketing mentality lives on (sigh). And yes, I did read that only Win 8, the worst MS OS since millennium, was supported, with the not mentioned out loud inference Windows 10 was not supported on a bit older, but still quite good systems running Windows 10.

Did not work for my application
I wanted to connect a Windows 7 desktop to a nearby wall-mounted monitor, to have announcements scrolling and photo slideshows. No joy, even after downloading drivers and reading help files and spending way too much time trying to configure it.I know the receiver works, because we can connect to it with an Android tablet. So for some reason, the ScreenBeam transmitter dongle just doesn't work with any of the computers we want to use it with. We have other computers that can talk to the receiver already -- don't need the USB transmitter dongle, which is now collecting dust on my desk.

Works with some delay
The transmitter eventually worked for me with my Windows 7 laptop. It took several attempts to get it to pair with my Screenbeam II receiver. There is a definite delay in the transmission signal to the display...the delay is similar to doing a Skype presentation/screen-sharing online i.e. approx. 1 to 2 second delay, but this may be dependent on the computer as mine is very slow with every program I run. You are much better off using Windows 10 to mirror your screen, but this transmitter does work with Win7. By the way it does NOT work if you upgrade your Win7 to Win10 before you install the Actiontec software!

There are lots of posts that this does not work ...
There are lots of posts that this does not work with a Computer that was upgraded from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10. I found that it worked flawless when you download the software from Actiontec's website per the instructions included in the package. I could not get it to connect using the Windows 10 "Connect" functionality, but it connected every time using the downloaded Actiontec software.

If you're not RUNNING Windows 7 or 8, move on.
I bought this unit to add Miracast capability to a computer that was originally shipped with Windows 7 and not Miracast capable, but has been upgraded to Windows 10. The idea was to add Miracast capability to the legacy computer. When I loaded the recommended software, it said that it could only work on computers running Windows 7 or 8 and wouldn't install. So even though my computer started with Windows 7, the transmitter wouldn't work unless I downgraded to Windows 7.This thing is useless unless your computer is still running Windows 7 or 8; if you've upgraded to Windows 10 and your computer doesn't have Miracast capability built-in, you're screwed. If I'd known that from the Amazon description, I wouldn't have bothered.
