It looks gorgeous when complete, but is challenging
I've taken on the project this week of lighting my Lego shelf City. Mostly official and MOC Modular Buildings. In doing so I have been working with a mixture of lighting products and price points. Using some no name brand 6 LED USB brick lights in soft white or blue white for smaller buildings. Using the Lightailing Kits for the mid tier stuff for reasons of cost plus ease of instalation. And finally I have a few LightMyBricks upper end kits for the really big pieces with a ton of animation and effects. For example the Spider-Man Daily Bugle. So far I have mostly installed the Lightailing Kits. And the install experience has run from absolutely wonderful, to nerve wracking. Sadly Detectives Office is a bit on the nerve wracking side of things,Of the kits I have played with the Lightailing are by far the easiest to install. The lights are all pre attached to bricks that are pre drilled etc. You just take each numbered bag of lights, run them where the instructions say, and done. No messy setup. No modules or power hubs. Just plug it in and it does exactly the task it was designed for. The lights laid out on your wires are designed eclusively for the building you bought them for. There isn't much room for customization. But they do the job well, and at half the cost of the higher tier Light My Bricks. The Detectives Office is one of their smaller sets. Which means it is doing more with fewer runs of lights. Which is where it can get ugly. For the building proper you only have two strings of lights. Instead of the more common 1 string per floor or module. With two strings you are running the wiring verticallyat very tight tolerances. which in turn somewhat limits your access to the lower levels. But if you get everything placed just right, it's worth it.I would recommend placing any minifigures you might want inside, before you start running the wires, as once the lights are in place it is harder to go back and open the lower levels. The DO is a fairly simple light arrangement. It lights the outdoor "faux" lamps, The awnings in front of the pool hall. Gives some animation to the pool sign. One nice simple touch that really helped with this one. Lightailing cleverly matched the color of the lightbrick to the color of the light it provides. So beige bricks are soft while. Bright White model flourescents. While this was the toughest I've encountered of the Lightailing kits yet, it took me less than an hour to get it installed. The Downtown Diner and Palace Cinemaeach took 2-3 hours, but were much easier.Overall I would recommend these to someone seeking to light their town or display a project

Worst of all Lighttaking set
Installation instructions are meh. That’s pretty much the same for all Lighttailjng set. While the lights make the building look nice, I have to unplug and plug this set in each time as the lights won’t go on when I turn on the power. Very annoying.

Ask for directions to be included with shipment if possible, or email seller and ask for them
Thanks product came quickly and was as described. It did not come with instructions so I emailed the seller through amazon and received directions via email within 12 hours. Finished Product looks awesome! My son was super pumped when he realized the “pool” lights change colors.

Looks great.
The directions were a little difficult to understand in some spots but it’s easy enough to figure it out. Worth the purchase.

Poor directions. Poor cable placement. Entire thing didn't even work
I suppose you get what you pay for. Found this kit to be very difficult to install.Directions were weak. Doesn't tell you where to tuck the insanely long cable of lighting. So what you get is an expensive lego set, lit up to show the details covered in cables.Oh... and half the string of lights didn't work. So...yeah.

The directions were not helpful at all. Returned it!

Individual bulbs on the pool sign change colors faster than the other ones
The lights in the pool sign go multicolored after a short amount of time making it just look off, before it does that it looks really nice though. The kit is easy to install, the pool sign changing individual lights going multicolored is just the main takeaway.

Would go for competitor, read below
I am very divided about this product. I ordered a set from Briksmax yesterday for my Lego Diner and the lights are beautiful. The instructions are really clear and the wires are organised to be less visible. I ordered the Lego detective and Parisian restaurant light sets from lightailing. The instructions are horrible. In both cases, the models displayed in the pictures were not the same as the Lego sets sold in Canada. The parts are also prewired compared to Briksmax where you wire things following instructions. I believe that not prewiring is a good advantage. This makes switching a faulty component much easier if something brakes. The instructions do not show how to hide the wires as much. Overall, I would go with the Briksmax which seems more complicated but is a superior product. I will say, the lights are very nice when lit. Overall these were nice but frustrating to install, Briksmax are nice and fun to install. FYI, I use these two as comparaisons because I ordered and am able to compare. I don't have any affiliation with Briksmax.
