Product description Madonna - Bedtime Stories - CD .co.uk On this, her seventh album proper, Madonna once again shows that one of her greatest talents is her ability to choose collaborators who bring the best out of her. This time around, the producers and co-writers include Bjork, Nellee Hooper (Massive Attack/Soul II Soul) and swing deities Dallas Austin & Babyface (who, amongst a myriad of credits, were the men behind TLC's CrazySexyCool). Mellower in the most part than her previous work, the album includes the usual handful of hits in "Secret", "Human Nature", the title track, and "Take A Bow", a duet with Babyface which is as beautifully glum as anything she's done. While the period between the Erotica/Sex fiasco and her triumphant return with 1998's Ray Of Light was a comparatively lean period commercially for Madonna, this album is up there with the best of her work. --Ronita Dutta

Remains one of my favourite Madonna albums.
The first time I heard Bedtime Stories I wasn't very impressed, in fact I would go as far to say that I didn't like the album. I have loved everything Madonna had produced and found her to be a talented yet underrated artist. A year later I decided to give this album another go and it instantly grew on me. Now it is in my top 4 'M' albums. Never have i had such a change of heart with an album. The 90's saw Madonna change as a person and as an artist. This album emphasises that when compared to previous material such as her first 3 albums. After the Erotica controversy Madonna opted for a softer more toned down image and sound. She tried to appeal to the masses again. She turned to R&B, something she hadn't really touched. However, she didn't make your typical R&B album from the 90's like Mariah Carey ( Daydream/Music box) or even MJ (History). With the help of some amazing producers and writers including Babyface Madonna created some of her finest work. The album proved to be a commercial and critical success. Although it wasn't the same height of success she enjoyed with Like a Prayer or True Blue.-survival. This proves to be a great opener for the album and really set the feel for the rest of Bedtime Stories. 4/5-secret. Honestly one of her best singles to date. this is a great R&B/Pop tune and was performed amazingly by Madonna 5-I'd rather be your lover. One of the albums weakest tracks yet it still had a catchy sound to it 3.5-don’t stop. Personally, my least favourite track on BS. It doesn't fit in with the album and tries to include a more dance-disco sound. I find that it distracts you. 2-Inside of me. This is a beautiful song by M. very impressive with great lyrics. 4.5-Human nature. Another album highlight. R&B beats are amazing and the lyrics see Madonna having a 'dig' at her critics. Amazing!! 5-forbidden love . Truly beautiful ballad,5-love tried to welcome me. Great song 4-sanctuary. one of the best on the album. The lyrics are thought provoking and and rich. Madonna sings in a haunting yet calming voice. The song has an AMAZING beat 5-Bedtime Story. My FAVOURITE SONG FROM THE ALBUM. WOW!! This song has blown be away from the very first time I heard it. The earth-like sound and mystery tot the song is what I love. The lyrics are beautiful and like the previous song provoke thought. It's one of my all time favourite Madonna songs. Ironically, it was wrote by Bjork (who I am not usually a fan of) 5-Take a bow. One of the best 90's songs and some of M's finest vocals. 5

Madonna Goes Ahead Of The Times - The softer follow up to Erotica
Erotica rocked the music world with controversial videos and songs and remained overlooked...but as it turned out Erotica was in fact one of MADGE's greatest albums(one of my favourite albums(in top 5):)songs were extremely hard hitting and very powerful,so what does Bedtime Stories have on offer?Well as it turns out it is in fact a great/unusual combination of an album with some great songs, power ballads, and a little touch on the techno side.I actually feel that this is a very good album(although not quite at her best)as she teams up with Nelee Hooper,BaByface,Dallas Austin,Dave'JAM'Hall, and (of course) BJork.while not a slick or as classy as Erotica,True Blue,or Like A Prayer,it contains a few dazzling songs and remains a gem in the queens crown.in some ways overshadowed by Ray Of Light and previous album Erotica. it remains an enjoyable album diverse in genre and messages.standouts include-Take A Bow(one of the greatest ballads of all time),Bedtime Story(co-written with Bjork),Forbidden Love(not the dance version from confessions...),Secret(one of her best, mixing Funk and Dark Groove Basslines),and Inside Of Me, Sanctuary and HUMAN NATURE.this was her first album to be co-produced by well known producers in the music industry, the next is (with-Timbaland,Timberlake,Snoop Dog,and Pharrell)HARD CANDY which is again another one of her greatest albums(sweet!!).good album/great price,i also recommend Erotica,Like a prayer,True Blue,Music, and Hard Candy:):)some classy albums.the tracks-survival-4/5secret-5/5id rather be your lover-4/5don't stop-4/5inside of me-5/5human nature-5/5 - taking double standards DOWN!forbidden love-5/5love tried to welcome me-4/5sanctuary-5/5bedtime story-5/5-eerie tune but highly enjoyable...Bjork also deserves some praise.take a bow-5/5-a powerful ballad to close the album.Bedtime Stories is an album and era often overlooked by fans and critics.BUT like all Madonna albums, this is a true testiment and musical progression. It foreshadows the spirituality of Ray Of Light but continues the personality and body of work from Like A Prayer and Erotica. It is again another sublime artwork of an album and an underrated gem of the 90's.worth purchasing

Sound could’ve been better
Bedtime Stories is one of my all time favourite albums. I have it both on tape and CD, thought the vinyl rerelease could be a good investment to preserve this album’s legacy. However ultimately the LP had to be returned as it simply doesn’t sound as good as the CD. The latest mastering made this album sound very flat and so quiet that only full volume could do it justice. The bass has been muted too. CD is definitely a superior choice at least until the proper remaster will be released on vinyl one day. In a side note, hope when another vinyl is released one day, they will use the original upside down artwork as it was originally intended.

Shame about the crackles.
Excellent record if only it wasn't so crackly. Had first copy exchanged but the replacement is just the same with loud crackles in exactly same places , mainly on side two.. Visually the record looks perfect. No one else has mentioned this problem. Could be one of a bad batch. Will get yet another replacement however if that is also the same will have to obtain a copy from anther supplier. As for content probably one of Madonna's best albums. Would give it 5 stars if there were no pressing problems. The second replacement record is virtually crackle free and have therefore upgraded my review to 5 stars..
