Good idea but ..........
I bought two mats, one for each cat and so hoped one of them would try them in the very hot weather. I could tell they weren't impressed with the smell. I then laid a piece of newspaper on the top as they like sitting on papers - at least when I'm trying to read them they do, but that didn't work either. Not on the floor or on top of their cushions! I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, they hardly use or play with anything I buy specially for them. Most cat owners will know what I mean!!!In these circumstances, difficult to rate the product.

Honestly can't get my dog off it
As we have somehow been blessed with a bit of sun in the UK, my 12 year old pup began to feel the heat and couldn't find a way to cool off or get comfortable. I scanned the Internet for some solutions until I came across this cooling pad. For less than a tenner on Prime I thought I'd give it a shot and hoped that it came before the sun disappeared for good, and it's honestly been one of the best things I've ever bought her (also thankful we can get some more uses from it and we got a little more sun too!).Expensive toys? Not interested. Comfy bed? She prefers mine. Cooling pad? Well, I can't get her off it! This pad is small, but fits perfectly for my tiny pooch without taking up loads of room, it would also be ideal for puppies and other small pets (but bare in mind that there is a gel inside of the mat that acts as a coolant, so pups that chew could be in for a bad time). It's also easy to wipe down and is lightweight. I suppose if your pets claws are sharp, it might puncture the pad, but it seems relatively thick and as my dog spends more time on than off it, I think I can safely say that there's no chance of it being broken by her. There's also no signs of it bursting if a larger animal was to use it (although it might not fit on this size)! Hope this helps!

Nice and cool
I've put it inbetween a blanket as I didn't want my cat bursting it. It's done its job and kept my cat cool

Inside of boxes are covered in black damp, mat also smelling of damp
Firstly, I bought one of these particular mats a few years back and it did help with cooling me down, although the cat wouldn't use it, typical of cats to be that way. So I know they help with cooling, hence two stars rather than one. Now on to the reason why only two stars...I think the mats must have been stored in a place where there was moisture present as both boxes had black damp inside them and it was on the mats, so they (obviously) smelled of damp. I tried just scrubbing them with Zoflora and rinsing, and it did make the smell less intense but it's still there at the moment. So, I am going to soak them overnight in Zoflora to see whether I can get the smell out completely and make sure any potential spores etc are dead. Luckily, this Zoflora I use is harmless to pets when dry. If I can't get the cat to use it, I will use it myself, provided the smell comes out. If not, watch this space as I'll let the seller know about the damp in any event.UPDATE: I managed to get the stains out but it took quite a few soakings with Zoflora and scrubbing with a nail brush, rinsing repeating. A fair bit of hassle for something brand new to be honest - I wouldn't buy them again.
