The 5 Second Journal: The Best Daily Journal and Fastest Way to Slow Down, Power Up, and Get Sh*t Done

A book for self-empowerment not pretty drawings
This journal is more than worth the money. The layout, tips and format of the daily notes is very helpful especially if you're stuck in a rut and can't seem to get past the first hurdle without falling too far behind. The low reviews are completely unfounded in reality, the paper is at least 90gsm most likely 100gsm (I have a 90gsm notepad to compare to) and it's quite clear this isn't a journal for drawing pictures all over, this is a journal for sitting down and putting pen to paper with meaningful self-reflective thoughts to progress as a human being. There is a blank A5 page every five days of the journal for drawing/brainstorming. No complaints whatsoever and will most likely continue to buy as I fill each one.

Get structure to your day
I often felt I was frustrated by what I had achieved in a work day. I'd often get distracted. I find the Braindump and Pan My Day the most useful parts. I use the braindump as "todos" and the Plan My Day I break up in chunks and use the Pomodora technique to get things done.

Great Journal
Absolutely love Mel's journal, getting s*** done, everyday a bit different depending on how I feel or how I want to organise my day, on page 205 now, can't wait to get a new one for next year!

Doesn’t suit me but no reason to dislike
The gimmick is that this is a five second journal which is actually a distortion of Mel Robbin’s technique of action taking in five seconds before you talk yourself out of it. See her on YouTube ted talk. Although she has put her name to it, I cannot see much connection. She does make an intro and shows an example of how it might be filled in but after that it is nothing very different from a day planner. (I personally work best with to do listing and have now purchased a page a day academic year diary, so that I can do a list against a date. A page a day diary would be equally suitable). The format of this product gives two pages, the second of which gives two lines per hour from 6 till 8 for plans and appointments. You put in your own dates, so there is no pressure to use daily. The first page has a mood gauge and reason for mood. My mood doesn’t fluctuate much and so it isn’t useful to me but might be relevant to others. The quality is decent but it suits small handwriting and the spiral is uncomfortable to bridge as you write. In considering the price consider the value you can add and how and if you would use it. Consistent use of a product like this is extremely powerful and motivating.

Life changing
Seriously I pre ordered this book but when it arrived I was having a down turn in my mental health. A year & half on I just wish I had started sooner because the effects it had on me finally helped me out of a viscous circle and one I’m most grateful for now. I bought one for my fiancé though and noticed his didn’t have the daily tasks. Maybe they revised & reviewed that, but in essence it’s been a life saver

Simple, focused , and effective
I love the simplicity and repetitiveness of this journal, in that I know what to expect each day so I can focus my day quickly. I’ve bought a few journals in the past, but this is the only one I’ve repeat purchased. Love it!

Overpriced for what it is
I really wanted to like this but, to be honest, I find it overpriced for what it is. The spiral bound feature is annoying because it means that when writing on the left side of the journal my writing gets cramped up because of the spirals getting in the way.For me there are two many sections in the journal that I don't find useful. I think I would prefer another type of journal/planner. Saying that, I'm sure there will be many who love this.Disappointed that I spent so much money on this.

It's very good quality. The paper is thicker than my Moleskin ...
I've been aware of Mel Robbins for awhile and recently have taken a course. Wasn't sure about this journal due to some other comments but went ahead and ordered it, arrived today. It's very good quality. The paper is thicker than my Moleskin notebook which is an excellent quality notebook. This has a metal spiral binding enclosed by the hard board cover. I'm going to get a whole lot of benefit from using this journal!
