The standard by which all other truing stands are measured, updated for 29 inch wheels.
For the last 15 years, I have used my tried and proven Park Tool Professional Wheel Truing Stand to help true wheels on everything from my own mountain bikes to friends in our riding club to neighborhood kids who dinged their wheels. That unit was almost pure steel throughout and a workhorse that could handle almost any wheel. Unfortunately, along comes the 29 inch standard and suddenly guys in my riding club are asking for help with wheels that will no longer fit in my stand. And this is where the updated, TS-2.2 comes in, because it offers the bike mechanic the ability to true a 29 inch wheel with the tire on (and also to true very large fat tires up to 4 inches in width (5 inches with a few modifications)). So, I put my old workhorse stand up for sale here at Amazon and took the $170 I made from selling it and put that back into the $250 purchase price of the fully up to date TS-2.2. My new stand arrived about a week later and true to form is almost completely industrial grade steel and very heavy at about 20 pounds (about 9 kg). Fortunately, it was already perfectly centered from the factor, so I popped in my friend's 29 inch wheel that he needed help with and within five minutes, my first wheel on the TS-2.2 was nice and true again. Now, that several months have passed, I have come to appreciate the finer points of the TS-2.2. Its two best new features are the aforementioned ability to work with 29 inch wheels (and by default, 650 or 27.5 inch wheels as well) and the plastic caliper tips that now protect rim sidewalls. On my older Park Tool stand, I had to coat the caliper tips in Plasti Dip so that they would not scratch the carbon sidewalls of my more expensive wheel sets. Fortunately, the TS-2.2 includes these by default, and it means you no longer have to worry about scratching your rim sidewalls. I also liked how the construction of heavy gauge steel was carried over from the earlier versions and the springs, nuts and bolts are all very heavy duty that are meant for daily shop use for years of wheel truing. So, are there any downsides? Well, I am not sure I like the perfectly round knobs of the TS-2.2 as well as the slightly indented knobs on my older stand. The older adjustment knobs were slightly easier to grip and turn I think. I also wish the TS-2.2 came with at least a basic attached base for stability. I added on the Park Tool TSB-2 which is made for the TS-2.2 but it cost me an extra $32. Although, nothing prevents the owner from simply bolting on a self cut wood base if they want. Not deal killers but some points that Park Tool might consider when they eventually roll out the TS-2.3 someday. Overall, the TS-2.2 is exactly like my older model but with the ability to hold larger 29 inch wheels and without scratching rims. Its heavy grade construction and attention to detail likely mean that it will be around truing wheels long after I bite the dust. This is one of the best tools Park makes and is five stars out of five in my book.

Great for DIYers biking enthusiasts
If biking is your passion and you put a lot of miles on your bikes, sooner or later, after hitting a few bumps or potholes, your wheels will get out of 'true.' One telltale sign is when you feel or hear a pulsation while lightly applying your brakes. The Park Tool TS 2.2 is a very well built, heavy duty, versatile wheel truing stand that makes accurate truing of your wheels relatively easy. The tool comes factory calibrated and so I did not find it necessary to adjust or calibrate the tool in order to have the wheel centered on the rim calipers. Perhaps with time it may need some adjustments and re calibration which can be done with the use of a Park Tool centering gauge (approximately $60 on Amazon). Also purchasing a wheel dishing tool is optional if your truing stand is well calibrated or you are willing to spend a little more time by flip flopping the wheel on the truing stand.

By the pound
If you're buying truing stands by the pound, this might be your bestvalue. It's heavy. It's dense. It's made from a lot of metal. It alsoappears to be well-made. Alas, it is not immune to the Natural Laws.Physics works against this stand. As pictured in the typical photos...well, it won't "stand" in that configuration. However, save yourdabloons/wampum/sub-Drachma-scrapple for something else: there's noneed to buy a "fancy stand" if you have access to a drill, cancounter-sink some bolt heads, and can figure-out how to buy bolts at ahardware store (note: you'll ALSO need to be able to purchase anddeploy nuts -- easy, Beavis -- and optimally washers).Having said all of that (translation: mount the stand to either abench or a few twelve-inch strips of wood), this is the truing standthat you want during a zombie apocalypse. I suspect that theSherman-tank-like qualities of the stand can withstand evenbrain-hungry jostling from hordes of zombies brushing-past to get tothe mountain-bike-wielding survivors (let's face it / hope it:Hipsters and their fixies will be ground-zero for zombie-dom; theupshot is that we'll legally be allowed to shoot Hipsters). This is my second truing stand in... a long time. Unless thegovernment commandeers it for defense against SkyNet, some day, thisis quite likely the LAST truing stand I'll purchase. Yes, it was atoss-up between home-ownership and a truing stand... but dormers andcrown-moulding don't really stand-up the same way to zombie Hipsters.I'm jus' sayin'...BTW: Why only 4/5 stars? Because the thing costs too damned much. Imean, it's a few pieces of metal... so get over it. When I think thatI can but six microcontrollers + interconnects + stuff for the sameprice...? Well, Park Tool has ALWAYS been a bit "too proud." They'regouging us, still... but, well, apparently there are some schmucksthat will "take it."

Works Well
Bought this after a few wheels got damaged. Even for a novice who has never trued a wheel before, this works well and allows the rider to get their bike wheels back and spinning. Took about 20-30 minutes to get the wheel trued the first time this stand was used. Solid, well built. Expensive, but after truing a few wheels it will be cheaper then taking the bikes to the shop. The best way to true a wheel is with the tire off, but for a quick fix the tire can be left in place. This stand will fit a 29er wheel with the tire on it with no problem. Once purchased, it is obvious to see why many bike shops prefer to use this product. For a quick inservice on how to true a wheel, look at page 302 on Zinn's Mountainbike Maintenance 5th edition book. Many MTN bike wheels will have a slight wobble after hard riding and a few accidents, however these imperfections can be imperceptible on the ride after truing with this stand. Once purchased, it will likely be used more often then one thought they would use it.

EXPENSIVE but worth it
With 4 bikes to maintain it speeds up wheel truing. When a spoke breaks, the wheel wobbles. Bike shops charge upwards of $30. plus cost of spokes to make a wheel true again. My time is too precious to waste making two round trips to a store to deliver and pick up a wheel. It might take a week before a shop has time to fix it. I do not learn anything just paying someone to do it for me.Truing a wheel on a bike can be done but has proven too frustrating and a failure compared to the park truing stand. Other stands can be bought or made. Some people do it. For the price and convenience, amazon was the way to go. 5 day delivery just because I refuse to pay a yearly fee for speedier delivery. A few months ago it would have been one or two days.Learning to true a bike wheel requires determination, tenacity. patience, a willingness to learn someting new and useful, Youtube videos on truing wheels are great tutors.
