EVERYTHING MUST GO [DVD]

Not a comedy but...
A glimpse into the life of someone struggling. Well written, heartfelt.

Different for Farrell
Will Farrell did a good job here, as a not particularly likeable character a long way from his usual role. A fairly slow paced film which addresses some life lessons, which aren't particularly revelational. A good cast with a basic story.

Living with and without Alcohol - An entertaining Watch
Good Story. Empathetically written. Well acted. Christopher Jordan Wallace was the unobtrusive star. Nice humerous and generous touches. Worth a watch. Recommended

He's out done it this time
Showing weakness is a sign of strength. I wish more men were truthful with their emotional self. Beer is not advertised in this movie unlike Netflix and other show's branding everything. Will is to die for with his so Farrel approach to funny awkwardness. I kept the change and gave it 5 stars because.. I can and it rocked my world.

a different side to Mr Ferrell
first of all for Amazon to have this as a comedy purely because Will Ferrell is in it is just wrong, a sad wee movie but showing a totally different side to him. really enjoyable movie I'd never heard of before

Not up to Ferrells usual standarda
Failed to grab my attention. Watched all the way through but kept waiting for something even remotely interesting to happen. Good actors with good potential, poorly executed

What a way to go!
Great movie - a departure from Will Ferrell's more mainstream work but a slow, thoughtful pace with some genuinely moving moments. I am a massive Raymond Carver fan so if you like 'Why don't we dance?' you will love this little movie. The Swiss-Army knife scene still makes me smile!

Give it a chance and think outside the box!
I believe Will Ferrell is a better actor than most people give him credit for and it seems to me a shame that people want to type cast him in only comedic roles. "Everything Must Go" is a movie that proves that he has the acting chops to take on any role, including dramatic and tragic. Everyone knows Will Ferrell is a hilarious and brilliant comedienne. With that said, for me some of my favorite roles of his are the ones where he tones it down and shows his vulnerability. For instance, "Stranger Than Fiction", "Winter Passing" and "Everything Must Go" are not the typical over the top and outrageous comedies that we associate with Will Ferrell, but that does not mean that they are not as good as any of his signature blockbuster comedies. They are different genres entirely and need to be viewed as such, even if there are comedic moments in them. It's like comparing apples to oranges. "Everything Must Go" is a dramatic and subtle role and I think it is unfair to compare it with Will's other wild comedies. Because if that was what you were expecting just because Will Ferrell is in this movie then you would be better off watching "Old School" again than seeing this film. However, for those of you who would like to see more of Will Ferrell the actor and less of Will Ferrell the comedienne then I say give this one a chance, because you won't be disappointed. I found "Everything Must Go" to be heartbreaking and slightly humorous in a tragic way. Will Ferrell is such a likable person that even in this movie where he plays an alcoholic, who's life is falling a part, we the audience are compelled to root for him. We want Will's character to pull himself together and stop drinking, because there is something so endearing and pathetic about the way Will plays this character that even though he's a screw up, we don't want to see him fail. I don't know if another actor in this role would have been as sympathetic as the way Will Ferrell played him. I own this film and every time I watch it I become more and more impress with Will's acting ability. Believe me, I'm a huge fan of Will Ferrell's comedy, I love "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers" as much as anybody. But I found this movie and this role to be a refreshing change for Will Ferrell and I hope that he continues to step outside the box and pursue more dramatic roles like "Everything Must Go". He has the talent, now if only the film industry and the mass audience would expand their minds and just give him a chance to prove it.

Modest, low key, inspirational film
*I work as an addictions counselor with recovering addicts and show this to them periodically.PROS1) A serious story about one mans struggle with alcoholism that has a realistic ending.2) As the title suggests the movie has a great general message, especially for people in recovery.3) Light humored, gentle and a good soundtrack.CONS1) Although it has some funny moments with Will being his usual self, it does tend to drag on at times.2) Struggles to define itself as a comedy or a drama, it tries to blend these, sometimes successfully and sometimes not.
