Painting Flowers A to Z with Sherry C. Nelson, MDA

It was a nice book. I bought it to improve my painting of flowers.

I am very happy with the purchase of Painting Flowers A to Z by Sherry C. Nelson. The book was delivered within two days of placing my order. The illustrations of the flowers are beautiful.I especially like the material list and color key given for each flower along with the option to hand trace or photo copy for your personal use.I will reference this book for years to come and I already know that it will be a favorite in my collection.

starts out very clearly but then dissolves into very general instructions

I am in love with this book! I am in awe of the talent of wonderful artists like Sherry Nelson. She gives wonderful tutorials for each flower. I'm ready to start learn how to paint a prettier flower by using Sherry Nelson's techniques! Thanks! I'm really enjoying the first of a process of reviewing the tutorials and getting a feel of how to properly paint a flower, the author's way!

This is a marvelous book. The color mixtures are given as well as step by step instructions on how to paint the flowers. There are several to choose from. What I really enjoyed was that while there are detailed instructions, you still must create your flower on your own. The painting is totally yours. Anyone who has a garden, who loves the smell and beauty of their flowers will enjoy painting them and this book is a wonderful guide.

When you put those instructions to use, the results are not the same as the author. Especially disappointing is the color mixes given, I mixed up one recipe probably 5-6 times and could never get it to look even close to what was shown in the book. It had to have been missing a color, I eventually ended up mixing my own version of the color to come close to the little swatch she had in the book. This happened on more than one occasion. She also uses a lot of black which is a very difficult color to use without ruining what you are painting. I was taught to never use black pure from the tube and doing that, as this author claims she does, ended up making a grey mess of everything near the black application. I say use the book for top flower tracings, some useful painting techniques but plan on making up your own color mixes. Otherwise, I thought this book was worth the money and one of the best out there for painting flowers.

I bought this book from my mom, she likes painting a lot and with this book she was able to learn new techniques, she enjoyed it a lot.

An excellent publication, with clear step-b-=step guidance to producing paintings of a wide range of flowers. Apparently her other publications are just as good; would recommend it
