Great appliance!
Read the reviews and can now confirm that this is a great little fryer. This is the first one I've ever owned and it is worth every penny. First day I fried some chicken wings, cheese sticks, and onion rings. All came out excellent. Wings take about 8-10 minutes per 10 pieces. Cheese sticks about 4-5 minutes per 8 frozen pieces, and onion rings about 2 minutes. I got the rings and cheese sticks from Sam's club ready to fry for no hassle cooking. It was such a hit, my aunt and uncle asked me to order one for them so they can fry on their own. When you plug it in, it turns on and is ready to use. There is a button to cycle between 300-375 degrees in 25 degree increments. Once the temp is set, press another button to start warming the oil. It holds almost a gallon of oil (I used canola) to fill to the max limit. It will take around 15 minutes to get up to temp. The light is red until it is ready, then turns green. Put your stuff in the basket, drop it in, and then just wait. This unit has a timer on it, but it only serves to alert you when you know how long your food will take. Warning: the timer will NOT turn off the machine, so you need to be close enough to hear it because it will continue to beep once the timer is done. Once it counts down, it will start counting up so you know how long you went over if you don't pull it out in time. Once the food is ready, lift the basket and wait for the light to turn green again before starting your next round of frying. The cord is less than 2 feet long I think and it is very easy for it to pull off. The first fry I did outside with an extension cord. I had to wrap it around the base of the machine so there wouldn't be any weight on it to pull the cord out. No problem. Second time I fried inside because it started to rain. Set it on the counter and no extension cord needed. There is a lid, but if you want your food crispy don't use the lid. I only used it while making the initial drop to make sure there is no splashing oil that I wasn't prepared for. Once it's in, I remove the lid after about 30 seconds. When I was done, just pulled the cord out and let the oil cool down before disposal. I used it twice. Perhaps the oil could stand a third use, but I didn't feel like bothering with it.Would definitely recommend! Can't wait to try some fruits and veggies next time.

Best fryer from my research for the money.
I was looking online for a smaller fryer that was easy to take apart to clean. It is harder to find than you think. But the electronic temp controller slides off easily. The temp controller just has a electric timer that beeps when time runs out. and the temp is controlled from 300-375 in 25 degree increments. It has a light that turns from red to green, when the oil is at temp. The metal container that holds the oil, is easily removable and dishwasher safe. The basket that holds the food is also dishwasher safe. The basket held 4 large chicken legs no problem. I could do 2 large breasts, or 3-4 large thighs. I also fried some fish and chips and it performed EXCELLENT. The temperature recovery after adding food was ok, it was not the best but not disappointing. I was very happy that the temperature was steady enough that nothing burned, especially french fries. The fries were crisp and really nice. I really liked the clean up the best. Very easy and fit in dishwasher nicely

So far so good.
We have used this a total of twice as of my writing this review. It looks amazing and has worked well. While looking for a fryer I ran into a bevy of complaints and I want to address a few of those.Odor: When you fry food, it smells. You can help prevent this by using a good oil such as peanut oil. Warning, it doesn't completely prevent the smell but it brings it down several notches in oily odorific intensity. The fryer does come with a vent built into the lid. All it is is a metal mesh one. This doesn't do a lot for filter out the odor. BUT! Most foods you cook are going to require that you leave the lid off of the fryer because of condensation built up on the lid. So, it's not going to matter if you have a HEPA filter built into the lid, when you cook, the odor is going to be there because your lid is going to be sitting on the counter.Basket: One reviewer pointed out the relatively large holes in the basket. Well, I don't know but every fryer that I have seen has this larger mesh thing going on. Heck, even back in the day when I worked in food service our baskets had fairly large spacing between the mesh. On top of that, a lot of times depending on the size of what you are cooking for example chicken, corn dogs, donuts, etc. you won't actually use the basket.Heat time: All I can say on this one is yeah, it takes longer to heat up than our old Fry Daddy, but it does have about 4 times the oil in it.Temperature: So far each time we have used it, we used a candy/oil thermometer to check the temperature, and so far when it gives you the green light for cooking, it has been up to temperature.Ok if anyone can think of anything else, I'd be happy to add it to the review.I would definitely recommend this fryer.UPDATE:3/12/2013So, we've had it for a while now and still like it well enough. I haven't tested the temp lately so I can't say if it is still reaching temp and what not, but I haven't noticed any changed in cooking quality. The one negative thing I have to say about it is that our lid has gotten warped and will not lie down flush as it should. Now, it's not that big a deal since I only use the lid to store it and not for when I am cooking, but it's a bit disappointing. Granted, it's probably my fault it got bent, possibly when I moved.

Good, but the oil temperature indicator light stopped working after a month- Comapny does not honor warranty when product bought
Used for one month and it is now defective. The green light that indicated the oil is ready no longer works. After contacting Presto they refuse to honor the warranty since it was bought from a third party seller on Amazon.Apparently it was a 2010 unit which was purshased here.
