A must own for any turf nerd
I recently purchased this book when I was diving head first into becoming the master groundskeeper of my new lawn. To say this is a must own is an understatement. Everything I’ve encountered or had a question about has had an answer in this book - including overseeding. My only ‘gotcha’ is that it doesn’t specifically mention spotted spurge in the weeds section - but this is fine - the rest of the knowledge imparted will help me crowd out the spurge and overcome perennial weed growth with a thick, strong turf. The book is also really interesting for folks who like a little ‘behind the scenes’ knowledge. Great insights from the authors peers and friends throughout.Worth every penny and then some!

better to have more pictures
The content is all good. But I wish it had more pictures. The entire book is black and white without any photo picture. There are only very few figures. It does talk about all choices of grasses, categorized by cool/warm, sun/shade. But none picture. I would have to search the names online for the picture. None picture for the weeds, either. I bought the other book: "Organic Lawn Care Manual", which is also available on Amazon. That book is color printed and has a lot of pictures of grasses and weeds, which are very handy. Recommend to buy both book.

Not Bad, Could be Better
What I liked: it seems pretty comprehensive. He covers everything from installing a new lawn to repairing a bad lawn to maintaining a lawn. He covers fertilizing, pesticides, herbicides, mowing, watering, seasonal prep, and even hand-pulling weeds. He even has a section on creating patterns in the lawn. He covers lawn grass types, weed types, and how to deal with all of it. It’s in a very easy to read, easy to folllow format and has some sketches and photos. I love that he talks seriously about organic alternatives and the importance of not over-treating with chemicals. What I didn’t like: the main thing is it needs a lot more photos and sketches, and it needs to be in high-resolution, full color. A lot of the weeds, grass types, lawn examples and more could REALLY benefit from quality images. The book is a great read, but trying to use it as a reference after you’ve read it is a lot harder. As a reader I would also have benefited from a regional section that talks more specifically about how to take care of a lawn in my part of the world. Near the end he has a very thin section on landscaping, but it’s so vague and poorly illustrated i would’ve rather it not been included. The book also could use some updating, especially when talking about chemicals, organic treatments and new grass varieties.
