More than a one trick pony
Noted Food Guru and Geek God AltonBrown says that there should be no single-use gadgets in your kitchen. It seemed like the melon baller seems like would be in danger of being given the heave-ho on those grounds, but I'm on a small crusade to tell the world not to discount the tiny scooper so fast. In point of fact, It's it's so useful that I recently wore mine out and had to replace it. The replacement is a Norpro Grip-EZ Melon Baller with a sturdy tang and comfortable grip. Here are some shots of things I use it for on a regular basis. 1) apple coring 2) Strawberry hulling 3) Pepper hulling, de-ribbing, and de-seeding. I'm sure I'll come up with more uses, and you're all welcome to add to my list. Note: Oddly, I've never used it to make little melon spheres, which just seems weird in a Leave-it-to-Beaver era sort of weird. #savethemelonballer

Baller
I can now ball with the best of them. I’m a baller. I broke my last baller because it was weak - this one is sturdy and comfortable. And makes great balls.

Wanted something sturdier that get at the dollar store to core an apple and this one is great for that, what I wanted!

Really wanted this to work
I bought this one solely on the number of positive reviews.Unfortunately, this melon baller has been extremely bothersome. It is well made, and scoops the melon -but doesn't release the ball!I have to tap firmly against my hand or the plate, every time I scoop. My guess is that the hole in the cup part, which is meant to prevent suction, is just too small.Too late for a return. :(

Cheaply made
I used it for my gourmet apples and it broke. I only used it once. I'm highly disappointed. I couldn't finished and lost money behind this.
