Flowing Gold(MOD)

Great transfer onto DVD
The print of this old (1940) and rather obscure film looks crisp and clear with sound to match. The film itself isn't nearly the dud I was expecting. I wanted to see it for Frances Farmer, as I found her to be amazing in the 1936 film, *Come and Get It*. In this film, Farmer stars opposite John Garfield (whom she worked with a couple of years earlier in The Group Theatre in New York) and Pat O'Brien. The three leads all give spirited and deft performances and - even though *Flowing Gold* is hardly what anyone would call a notably classic or brilliant film - the film kept my interest for the duration. It's an action and romance picture and it's fast-paced and engaging. And certainly worth a look if you're a fan of John Garfield's or Frances Farmer's, to see them both in the flush of youth, energy and beauty.

Everytime I find some work of Frances Farmer I am full of joy. She was a complete actress and gorgeous as well.

Three Stars
Good but not one of Garfield's best.

Great B film with wonderful character actors in supporting roles
Great B film with wonderful character actors in supporting roles. The usual vintage 40's fight scenes. Pat O'Brien is terrific, projecting humanity while managing a bunch of untamed men in the oil field. A fairly accurate peek into the world of oil wildcatting. Rare opportunity to see Frances Farmer near the end of her brief film career.
