As long as the alternator has a W Terminal

It's a tachometer designed to take a voltage signal off the alternator (the W terminal on the back). This will then need calibrating to give an accurate RPM figure. So, if the 2 cylinder diesel has a suitable alternator, then it'll work. The number of cylinders is irrelevant; that's only important with impulse tachometers for petrol engines.

Yes, the pulse signal is from the W terminal. Then you have to calibrate the gauge to the signal.

It needs a feed from an alternator to tell the rpm. If your engine has an alternator fitted it should work. You will need to know the idle rpm to calibrate the gauge.
