Exactly what I needed in a pinch
We had a project where we conducted a full rewrite of a house for audio and visual. They originally had coax running for their digital audio, and for some reason didn’t think through the audio piece as they had their receivers in the basement. We though we could run the audio through the Arc Channel, but turned out their receiver was a lot older than we expected and thank god we found this device. We always run three Cat6 cables to our TV locations (Ethernet, HDbaseT Video, and one for control/aux/backup). We used the third for this device and it was able to bring the optical audio from the basement about 90ft to the 5.1 surround audio in the Livingroom. The sound quality would be better if it was a direct connection however unless your an audio officinato you wouldn’t tell the difference. Remember there are two options coax and optical connections and there is a little switch on the device to make that selection. Almost had a heart attack when it didn’t work and saw that I needed to hit that switch!

Emits a high pitch sound while powered on. *Update Unit was replaced and works great now.
The product works as expected, except for the high pitch whine emitted when powered on. Maybe I just got a bad unit, but I would not recommend this product for this reason. I am past my return/exchange window.**UpdateI reached out to the seller and they graciously offered to replace my defective unit. Updated my star rating for the product. The product continues to work well, but this time without issues. I can recommend the product at this point. Seller provided great customer service.

Does not work. Do not buy.
Does NOT work at all. First of all, the 12v power adapter was not included. I tried using a spare 12v 1amp power adapter I had laying around and the device will power on. But no sound. None at all.

Works so far
I think there's some confusion by some as to what this does. It's simply a cable converter. It does NOT alter the digital format of the data carried on the cable. TOSLINK is a digital audio format over fiber optic but the same single element digital stream can be sent over a single coax audio cable. Most high end stereos support both, and there's always been adapters to switch back and forth depending on if you have an extra fiber or digital port on something. What this does is allows routing to another room by converting the fiber or coax input to send it over a twisted pair. Power is also sent to the receiver over the additional wires of the CAT 5e cable. Then at the receiver end the digital audio is converted back to coax and TOSLINK outputs. The signal is never packetized for transmission over Ethernet or anything like that. It's just using a different type of cable. Thus, the performance is going to depend heavily on the cable used and how long it is. Depending on the application, you're probably better off just getting a long fiber, but where this comes in handy is for a well wired house that has an extra CAT 5e or better cable in the wall. That will let you get the audio to or from a centralized location to a single remote point. But you can't route it between multiple locations or anything like that.

LG C9 Optical Out --Ethernet--Digital Coax input Family Room Home Theater
I used my LG C9 optical out and connected the Toslink cable to the powered transmitter. I then connected the Cat5e which terminates in my basement rack next to the AVR. I connected the Cat5e to the receiver box and from here I ran a digital coax cable to the AVR The whole process was seamless. Interesting point is the Dolby Atmos setting on the LGC9 gets turned off automatically when a Toslink cable is connected. I know the powered transmitter can't send Dolby Atmos, but don't know why the Dolby Atmos is turned off automatically. Highly recommend this product if your home theater AVR is in the basement with the Home Automation racks i.e. Crestron. I purchased the CableCreation Optical Cable as well as FosPower Digital coax cable.

IT WORKS!!
I cannot tell you how many of these from different sources I have tried, and something was always off or didn't work. This works flawless. Optical audio, flip a switch, Digital-coax audio. It just works. It is only 2 weeks in, so not a long term review, but glad I finally got one that works. This shows it's possible, and this shows other vendors are peddling product not living up to the claims. Thank you for proving it's possible. Now let's just hope it lasts!

Works great, easy to set up
My house has Cat 6 cable running everywhere, so I was able using this product to put my music server in the equipment room and run a digital audio signal through Cat 6 to the AVR in the media room. There was no setup required. I just connected the product at both ends, powered it up, and it worked.
