what is the surface you are cutting on? Plastic?

It is a plastic type of material, I think. I'd add the first time I cut a steak on it, it left cut marks on it. I won't use it for steak. For a roast it's great! Nancy

Easy, just scrub with a bristle brush or put in dishwasher.

Does this dull knives (cutting on either side)?

I haven't experienced any dulling of knives.
