The day came when once happily childless house-flippers Pete and Ellie Wagner (Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne) took a hard look at their lives, and chose to open home and hearts to a foster kid. They found the troubled teen (Isabela Moner) they settled on was a package deal with two no-less-challenged younger sibs (Gustavo Quiroz Jr., Julianna Gamiz)... and they had to dog-paddle fast in the deep end of parenting. Sean Anders' amiable farce co-stars Octavia Spencer, Tig Notaro, Margo Martindale. 119 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.

Great video about fostering
Excellent movie showing different aspects of the foster program. Since watching this, I have become a foster parent.I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone: involved in the foster program, considering becoming a foster parent,or for anyone who knows someone involved in the foster program.

True to Life Story of Fostering and Adoption
This movie had me laughing and crying. I've never adopted, but have fostered teen children and this rang so true to me. I love that they didn't edit out all the cringy reality, but instead kept the movie honest and true to life.I am a fairly conservative christian, but I want movies based on a true story to be realistic...not a fairy-tale. This manages difficult material realistically and with just the right balance of humor and solemnity. If my kids were still youngish -10+, I would not hesitate to show them this, but would have a discussion about why there were such gritty moments (swearing, rebellion, inappropriate sexting situation). This is real life for kids and families in the foster care system. If you have an emotionally sensitive kiddo, I would watch the movie 1st and decide if they can handle it.If you want to see what fostering and adopting looks like from a birds-eye view, this is a fantastic movie. I love that at one point in the movie one of the characters says it's good to laugh and find humor in the hard...otherwise you won't make it. That is so true, not just in a fostering situation, but in all of life. The acting was excellent and even though there are hard moments, the end of the movie is uplifting. Well worth the time to watch!
